What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Process and Sampling Technician 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. As an entry-level metrologist, the Process and Sampling Technician is the foundation of and an integral part of the metrology team. In this job position, you will be responsible for performing and documenting calibrations of customer measurement and test equipment in one or more assigned areas (e.g. dimensional, electrical, physical). Process and Sampling Technician 1 ($40,400 - $62,200)

  • Performs measurement and test equipment calibrations that are less complex (for example: torque wrenches, pressure gauges, dial/digital micrometers, digital multi-meters, scales, etc.) and are compliant with customer requests, calibration procedures, and quality requirements.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Calibrate measurement and test equipment in one or more calibration areas (for example: electrical, physical, and/or dimensional)

  • Document calibration results in calibration management database

  • Manage assigned work load to meet customer need-by dates

  • Work collaboratively with assigned mentors

Process and Sampling Technician 2 ($44,600 - $68,600)

Performs measurement and test equipment calibrations that range from low to moderate complexity (for example: thermometers, thermocouples, weights, scales, step gages, surface flatness, etc.) and are compliant with customer requests, calibration procedures, and quality requirements.

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Process and Sampling Technician 2 will be required to:

  • Perform broad work assignments based on verbal instruction from supervisor, self-initiates work on daily basis

  • Participate in initiation, validation, and closure of non-conformance reports issued to report non-conformances identified through calibration

  • Ensure calibration package meet quality requirements in assigned areas

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of physics, chemistry, mathematics, and/or electronics

  • Basic knowledge and experience related to mathematical problem solving

  • Familiarity making dimensional, physical, and/or electrical measurements

  • Ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics, to read and understand electrical and/or mechanical assembly instructions, drawings, bill-of materials, and other related specifications

Additional Job Requirements for Process and Sampling Technician 2:

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Process and Sampling Technician 2 level requires:

  • Familiarity with precision, accuracy and bias values

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently with general supervision

Desired Skills:

  • Experience calibrating measurement and test equipment

  • Experience performing mathematical and statistical calculations using formulas

  • Knowledge of uncertainty budgets and test uncertainty ratios

Lower Level Education Required: High School Diploma and a minimum of one year related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Higher Level Education Required:A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a relevant technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and job experience

Additional Science/Engineering Area or major: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Design Engineering, Optics/Laser Science, Physics
