What You Will Do

ISR-4 is looking for highly motivated early career electrical engineers to assist in the development of custom instrumentation for various space-based detection systems. We are looking for electrical engineers with an interest in digital design, analog design, power supply design or RF design. Responsibilities include the specification, design, modeling, implementation, verification and testing of electrical circuits or FPGAs. Emphasis is on self-initiative and technical leadership in a small team environment of rapid prototype, high quality electrical assemblies.

Candidates at either level must have:

  • Demonstrated experience with advanced design & analysis tools such as schematic capture tools, analog or digital simulation tools, electromagnetic design tools, and/or printed circuit board layout and signal integrity analysis tools

  • Demonstrated experience with advanced system design and data analysis tools such as Matlab

  • Good oral, written and presentation communication skills

  • Experience working in a team environment

  • This position requires a Q access authorization. Applicants must have the ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

This position will be filled at either the R&D; Engineer level 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills & experience of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Electrical Engineer (R&D; Engineer) 1 ($78,400-$128,200)

  • Demonstrated coursework and advanced studies in one or more of the following electrical engineering focus areas:

  • Digital Design

  • Synchronous design, synthesis, routing, simulation, testing, and technical documentation of FPGA or other digital circuits

  • VHDL or Verilog

  • Test benches for FPGA or ASIC based design

  • Digital circuit card design

  • RF/Microwave

  • RF/microwave components and their system applications (amplifiers, receivers, synthesizers)

  • Fabrication and packaging for RF/microwave circuits and systems

  • Transmission lines, impedance matching, and signal integrity

  • Analog Design

  • Fundamentals of analog components

  • Low noise sensor electronics

  • High speed analog to digital conversion (gigasample)

  • Power Supply Design

  • Linear as well as switch mode power DC/DC converters

  • Power filtering and switching for efficiency and EMI/EMC compliance

  • Control and Feedback Loop stability analysis and testing

Electrical Engineer (R&D; Engineer) 2 ($86,000-$141,800)

In addition to the duties outlined above the selected candidate will also have:

  • Demonstrated design experience in one or more of the following electrical engineering focus areas:

  • Digital Design

  • Synchronous design, synthesis, routing, simulation, testing, and technical documentation of FPGA or other digital circuits

  • VHDL or Verilog

  • Test benches for FPGA or ASIC based design

  • Digital circuit card design

  • RF/Microwave

  • RF/microwave components and their system applications (amplifiers, receivers, synthesizers)

  • Fabrication and packaging for RF/microwave circuits and systems

  • (For digital design) Knowledge of high speed digital interfaces

  • Active Q Clearance

Education:

Electrical Engineer (R&D; Engineer) 1:

  • Minimum Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or similar from an ABET accredited college or university, advanced degree preferred.

Electrical Engineer (R&D; Engineer) R&D; Engineer 2:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree from an ABET accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar field with 3-5 years of experience or a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar field with 2-4 years of experience.

Additional Details:

Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

ISR-4 is a group that specializes in space-based radiation measurement and basic science missions. ISR has been developing, building, and operating space-based systems for over 50 years. In addition, the group develops electronics for terrestrial and airborne scientific and national security applications along with the requisite ground support and test equipment. The group’s projects receive funding and requirements from various government agencies including the DOE, DOD, and NASA. Projects are executed through a close interaction between all disciplines of engineers, technicians, and scientists, which fosters a highly creative and dynamic research and development environment.
