What You Will Do
The Engineering Services (ES) Division is looking for engineering managers with nuclear facility experience to become part of a multi-disciplinary organization. Engineering Services (ES) Division develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions that enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission.
What you will do:
First line management and technical leadership of Cognizant System Engineering teams for engineering activities performed for Facility Operations Directors (FODs).
Personnel and resource management and administration, including performance appraisals, and salary management.
Technical and strategic planning, group budgeting/accounting, fiscal planning and implementation.
Provide guidance and direction to engineering staff regarding DOE Orders, Regulations, Safety Basis, Configuration Management, and Integrated Safety and Security.
Implement Conduct of Engineering (CoE) principles and procedures in support of safe facility operations.
Ensure engineering designs are in compliance with federal, state, and local safety, environmental and health regulations including LANL Engineering Standards and Specifications.
Participate in engineering management assessments of engineering design activities including assisting ES Division with audits and assessments by DOE and NNSA representatives and other external and internal entities.
Perform FacilityDesign Authority Representatives (FDAR) functions (once qualified) for facilities.
Responsible for project requirements definition, Engineering Management and FDAR technical reviews, project acceptance, technical baseline definition, and configuration management.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to manage a team of Cognizant System Engineers including technical leadership, technical direction/goal setting, and conflict resolution.
Advanced technical knowledge and experience in system engineering, design, maintenance, and configuration management, including design change implementation and acceptance.
Ability to qualify as a Facility Design Authority Representative (FDAR) and ensure delivery of high quality engineering deliverables such as Management Level determinations, requirements and criteria documents, system health reports, vital safety system assessments, and operability determinations.
Advanced knowledge of multi-discipline codes and standards.
Experience managing Safety Basis issues in a non-reactor nuclear facility.
Proven experience leading a team to meet the formal, rigorous requirements and standards established in the nuclear, petrochemical, aerospace, defense, pharmaceutical or similar industry.
Strong interpersonal skills in both verbal and written communications and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and staff.
Demonstrated ability to form and support multidiscipline teams to achieve a common objective for implementing solving problems in facility operations or in resolving design issues.
Bachelor of Science in engineeringand applicable engineering experience.
Knowledge of the LANL CoE Program and its application to system engineering.
Previous expert experience providing engineering support for operating facilities associated with hazardous chemicals and/or nuclear processes requiring maintenance of safety documentation and control, change control, and configuration management.
Knowledge of DOE Orders and Federal Regulations pertaining to Facility Operations, Safety Basis, and Engineering.
Formal management training.
Registration as a professional engineer.
