What You Will Do

Reporting to theIndustrial Safety and Hygiene(ISH) Core Programs Team Leader, the Industrial Hygiene and Safety (IHS) Professional will be responsible for assisting ISH implement Industrial Hygiene program, policies and procedures. The IHS Professional 2 will also provide daily industrial hygiene support to programmatic and facility organizations to ensure the protection of workers, compliance with Laboratory ISH requirements, and mission success. The IHS Professional 2 will use professional IH concepts to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. The IHS Professional 2 is expected to collaborate with the work force and develop solutions to complex IH problems that require in-depth analysis of work activities and data. The IHS Professional 2 promotes safety, security, and quality in all operations; exercises prudent fiscal and property management; promotes teamwork within the organization and across the Laboratory; promotes a positive work environment; and delivers exceptional customer service. What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of and experience implementing industrial hygiene related risk assessments and corrective actions.

  • Experience identifying, applying, and interpreting federal codes, standards, and regulations in several IH program areas, including chemical safety, beryllium, exposure assessment, and other IH areas.

  • Working knowledge and application of techniques and procedures for industrial hygiene exposure assessment (both qualitative and quantitative), to include sampling and sampling techniques/instrumentation, sample analysis, and selection/implementation of controls.

  • Experience and skill in the preparation and communication of industrial hygiene technical information to technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Working knowledge and ability to apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or mitigate hazards while ensuring mission success.

  • Possessing excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively within a team environment and provide excellent customer service.

Desired Skills:

  • Working knowledge of and experience implementing exposure assessment programs.

  • Knowledge of DOE and regulatory requirements related to industrial hygiene in a research environment.

  • Working knowledge of Laboratory organizations, operations, activities, and data collection tools.

  • Working knowledge and application of Integrated Safety Management, Integrated Work Management, and other industrial hygiene procedures.

Education:A bachelor’s degree in related technical discipline and a minimum of five years of related experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and professional-level experience.
