What You Will Do

The Defense & Space Power Systems Group (MET-5) provides technical solutions for space and defense power systems by applying competencies in materials science, ceramics, materials processing, welding and metallography. MET-5 technical disciplines include chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, welding engineering, materials and corrosion science, and metallurgy.

The successful candidate for this position will provide technical leadership as the primary process engineer in maintaining the technical baseline for non-destructive evaluation/analysis fora number of NDE processes in a Category II nuclear facility. The successful candidate for this position will utilize engineering principles and theories to solve technical problems, and will serve as the interface between the group and its safety and compliance stakeholders to ensure that Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Maintenance, and Conduct of Operations programs are properly implemented throughout all project phases. Job duties will entail equipment installation support, development of work authorizing documents (operating procedures, training plans, travelers, etc.), provide operations support, and investigate opportunities for improving existing NDE systems. The candidate will also be required to perform NDT inspections in accordance with approved procedures in the following methods: VT, UT, RT and LT.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience in providing technical leadership on NDE methodology and procedure development.

  • Thorough knowledge of and experience in one or more of the following engineering disciplines: mechanical; materials science; metallurgy.

  • Demonstrated experience in evaluating UT, RT and LT NDE results.

  • Knowledge and understanding of ASNT SNT TC-1-A.

  • A complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and standards such as ASME, ASCE, etc.

Desired Skills

  • ASNT certifications.

  • Knowledge of welding, brazing and other materials joining processes.

  • Experience with quality assurance programs.

  • Knowledge of existing NNSA/DOE requirements related to nuclear and high hazard facility operations.

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in material science, mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering, or a related engineering field from an ABET accredited engineering college or university program and three to five years of experience. Advanced degree preferred.
