What You Will Do
The Operations and Maintenance Manager 4 (MM 4) for High Performance Computing (HPC) reports to the Maintenance and Site Services, Utilities and Institutional (MSS-UI) Operations and Maintenance Manager and is responsible for providing the day to day direction, budgetary oversight and schedule compliance for all facility maintenance and operations within the HPC facilities. The Manager 4 has overall responsibility for the operation and maintenance activities associated with the UI FOD systems, structures and components (SSC) which support the HPC Programs.
The Manager 4’s role is to ensure that the functionality of the systems and equipment in assigned facilities is maintained in accordance with the requirements of the Annual Maintenance Work Plan and the operation of those facilities or systems is performed in accordance with the conduct of operations and maintenance requirements defined by the Laboratory. The Manager 4 directs the efforts of their assigned Operations and Maintenance Coordinators and MSS craft in a manner to achieve optimum availability of the UI FOD SSC’s. The Manager 4 is the point of contact for working with the HPC Programmatic group representatives to review, support and help orchestrate Programmatic and UI-FOD SSC’s operational changes which may impact Programmatic SSC’s within the HPC complex.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct the maintenance efforts related to FODSSC’s within HPC in accordance with established Laboratory requirements
Direct the operational efforts of the FOD to ensure all HPC facilities are operated within the LANL safety envelope and established Laboratory requirements
Implement a safe, effective maintenance management program at the assigned facilities including the following:
Identify and implement preventive and predictive maintenance requirements for newly installed equipment
Provide input for the troubleshooting and repair of major facility SSC’s
Manage critical spares for facility systems
Near term planning and scheduling, POTD and POTW formulation
Coordinate with other support groups and facility tenants as required for notifications and performance of maintenance
Review water treatment analysis logs, and reports for the HPC cooling tower system, identify and correct problems with cooling tower water treatment
Implement the institutional LO/TO process within the HPC for UI FOD SSC’s in accordance with Laboratory requirements
Provide input and analysis for the UI-FOD Annual Maintenance Work Plan
Direct and control outage coordination for UI-FOD SSC’s
Direct event reporting and classification in accordance with laboratory requirements
Direct operation and maintenance procedure generation, review and implementation
Attend daily Plan of the Day meetings for status updates and scheduling
Qualify and function as a rotational backshift coverage provider
Direct the initiation, support and execution of sub-contract maintenance efforts
Provide maintenance project support from conception to finalization for both FOD and Program related efforts
Provide a high level of customer support through communication and direct interface with FOD, Program and Tenant representatives to identify and resolve operational and maintenance issues and improve processes
Train, mentor and groom high potential Operations and Maintenance Coordinator candidates
Function as the primary point of contact for the execution and coordination of facility operations and maintenance services
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of twelve years related experience in facility operations and/or maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Supervisory and/or Management experience in the Operations and Maintenance fields.
Experience with facility management including systems engineering design and maintenance, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control, facility control systems, major construction projects, and upgrades and renovations.
Knowledge of government regulations affecting facility maintenance and management.
Demonstrated experience and skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining action to be performed on problems affecting the maintenance program.
Advanced experience with HVAC operations, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance.
Advanced experience interpreting various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and P&IDs.;
Advanced experience with mechanical systems, building materials and developing maintenance methods and recommendations
Advanced successful experience working with multiple programmatic agencies and representatives to meet the schedules and goals of the Laboratory or similar organization.
Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills to include the preparation and delivery of reports/presentations.
Demonstrated experience reading, understanding, following, and enforcing safety procedures.
HPC or Data Center related work experience.
Knowledge of emergency operations.
Project scheduling and maintenance tracking experience and demonstrated application.
Familiarity with Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance and Conduct of Engineering processes.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
