What You Will Do

MST-7, the Polymer and Coatings Engineered Materials Group has great opportunities for outstanding candidates to join our efforts in target fabrication for High Energy Density Physics, Polymer Science and Engineering, coatings capability including physical and chemical vapor deposition, nuclear fuels research, and extensive characterization and forensics capabilities. All of our research is applied towards solving scientific and technical problems of importance to the nation and to the world.

MST-7 is seeking highly qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in support of nanofoam and aerogel materials development. A strong background in chemistry and materials science is required.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field completed within the last five years or soon to be completed.

  • A solid background in one or more of the following: chemical synthesis, nanomaterials preparation and characterization, and/or polymer scienceas demonstrated by a recent record of authorship of technical reports and peer-reviewed publications in these fields.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as demonstrated by writing and/or editing technical journals, papers or proposals.Candidates are expected to publish the results of their research in the literature and to present at conferences and technical meetings.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills as demonstrated by experience with public speaking (speaking at conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.); experience presenting technical information and data to a broad audience, including upper management and others in the scientific community.

  • Proven ability to work effectively to meet programmatic milestones and scientific goals are viewed favorably.

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams having diverse technical backgrounds.

  • Ability to work productively on multiple projects as demonstrated by meeting deadlines, goals and requirements, ability to work with minimal supervision.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with sol-gel chemistry, preparation and characterization of aerogels, and other porous and nanostructured materials.

  • Expertise in electrochemical device technologies, electrocatalysis, preparation and characterization of these materials.

  • Background in heterogeneous catalysis, including catalyst preparation and characterization.

  • The successful candidate should have a record of technical excellence and innovative thinking as evidenced by publications, presentations, and letters of reference.
