Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

The Engineered Materials group (MST-7) is seeking an outstanding postdoctoral candidate to join our interdisciplinary research team in the fields of advanced materials synthesis, characterization and applications. The successful candidate will perform experimental research on advanced 3-D Printing/Additive Manufacturing technology, with diverse end use-applications in catalysis, renewable energy systems, high energy physics, fusion science, and national security.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • A strong technical background in materials synthesis, colloid and interface science, polymer science and engineering, synthetic chemistry or a similar research area, as evidenced byhigh-impact publications in these fields

  • An ability to develop and implement new materials research paradigms, and to design, perform and communicate results of complex technical experiments with minimal supervision.

  • A provencapacity to work effectively in a team environment and to meet programmatic deadlines, milestones and scientific goals.

Desired Skills:

  • Expertise in the formulation, functionalization, and characterization of nanoparticle suspensions, emulsions, foams, gels, or other multi-phase materials.

  • Experience in the synthesis of polymeric and composite solids from molecular-scale building blocks.

  • Familiarity with materials characterization techniques including SEM, TEM, BET, DLS, XRD, XPS, XRF, NMR, Raman, FTIR, etc.

  • Hands-on experience with 3-D printing equipment (stereolithography, direct ink write, SLS, inkjet, etc.) is highly desired.

Education: A Ph.D. in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry or a related field completed within the last five years (or soon to be completed) is required.
