What You Will Do

The selected candidate will work as a 3D Designer to support the development and maintenance of institutional and departmental VISIBLE Team application. The selected candidate will be assigned to various projects based off the needs of the organization and at the discretion of SAE-3 management.

This position will be filled at either the Software Developer 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The selected candidate will work as a Unity developer to support the development and maintenance of institutional and departmental applications. The selected candidate will be assigned to various projects based off the needs of the organization and at the discretion of SAE-3 management.

Software Developer 2 ($73,800 - $120,400)

The successful candidate will:

  • Create high and low polygon models of 3D characters, buildings, and other assets set to specific technical and aesthetic guidelines.

  • Assess, develop, maintain, and maintain aesthetic standards.

  • Work closely with the developers; Creating assets to facilitate the development.

  • Propose creative solutions to meet product goals.

  • Work effectively in cross-functional teams.

  • Collaborate with internal and remote teams to identify, produce, and deliver tasks on time.

  • Work closely with internal intake & reporting teams and external stakeholders to understand issues and implement solutions accordingly.

  • Analyze data sets and provide clear summaries, actionable insights, and proposed next steps.

  • Analyze business processes, functions, and procedures to determine most effective business solutions to meet the needs of the organization.

Software Developer 3 ($89,900 - $148,300)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Software Developer 3 will be required to:

  • Self-initiate work with limited supervision.

  • Use independent judgment for determining course of action to accomplish objectives.

  • Use a broad range of advanced technical skills to solve complex technical issues.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Strong 3D modeling skills using Maya (Autodesk).

  • Strong skills texturing and lighting in Maya.

  • Working knowledge of rigging and animating in Maya.

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Suite.

  • Strong skills in Adobe Photoshop and After Effects.

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree education 3D design, New Media, Creative Media, Media Arts, Game Design or professional equivalent.

  • 5+ years of professional 3D Art/Design experience.

  • This position requires Q clearance access authorization. Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain DOE clearances, which normally requires US citizenship.

Additional Job Requirements for Software Developer 3:

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Software Developer 3 level requires:

  • Demonstrated experience in authoring AR, VR and mixed-reality applications.

  • Able to creatively supervise and drive projects from beginning to end with little assistance or supervision.

  • 8+ years 3D art/design.

Desired Skills:

  • Working knowledge of augmented reality concepts and solutions.

  • Experience in conceptualizing, prototyping and developing games and interactive presentations.

  • Working knowledge of Substance Painter.

  • Experience using configuration management tools like GiT, TFS, etc.

  • Knowledgeable of current gaming and game design trends.

  • Experience with mobile app development.

  • Enthusiastic about gaming culture.

  • UI/UX skills.

  • Data visualization experience.

  • 2+ years of Unity experience.

  • Be results-oriented and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Software Developer 2 Education Required: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Software Developer 3 Education Required: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

The Visible team is part of the Software and Applications Engineering group (SAE).

SAE provides software development, COTS application implementation, and support services for the Lab.
