What You Will Do
The Occupational Advanced Practice Clinician (ACP) will work as a key staff member of the Occupational Health organization to promote worker health and wellness at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
The Occupational ACP will be expected to provide exceptional service at the worker, group, and institutional level. You will have opportunities to learn and to practice medicine in exciting fields such as: radiation emergency medicine; chemical, biologic and physical hazard exposure; evaluation and management of work related injuries; ergonomics; substance abuse testing; population health management; travel health; and reproductive health.
What You Need
Recent experience and competency in a direct patient care setting as a certified ACP (Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner).
Demonstrated clinical skills i.e. patient triage, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation recommendations.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Competency in using an Electronic Medical Record.
Working familiarity with the field of Occupational Medicine, accompanied by a passion for worker health and well-being.
Familiarity with Occupational Health regulations and standards.
Familiarity with Workers Compensation statutes and workplace implementation.
Working knowledge of hazards related to biologic, chemical, physical and radiologic hazards.
Current certification for National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners through FMCSA.
Current certification as a Medical Review Officer Assistant.
Education, Training and Licensure
PA degree from a school recognized by the NM Board of Medical Examiners and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Current Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as applicable in the State of New Mexico to practice medicine under the supervision of a NM licensed physician required.
Current DEA and NM Pharmacy Board (or eligible) license
Master degree in Nursing from a school recognized by the New Mexico Board of Nursing.
National Certification as Nurse Practitioner.
Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as an Advanced Practice Nurse with ability to prescribe medication(s) as applicable in the State of New Mexico.
Current DEA and NM Pharmacy Board (or eligible) license.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter.

Where You Will Work
This position supports an institutional work force rich in diversity from a demographic, educational and experiential background. You will work directly with the workforce to: perform medical evaluations for work; treat work related injuries and illnesses; perform medical surveillance and certification examinations; and triage non-occupational health issues. Other duties will include: support of emergency response efforts; evaluation of workers’ compensation claims; service as the subject matter expert for various medical surveillance and certification programs; and service as a consultant on institutional projects or policy development as they relate to worker health.
The Occupational Health organization is a multi-disciplinary group of individuals who are dedicated to continual improvement and excellence as it relates to worker health, and the value of the organization at the institutional level. It is an employee based department that serves an on-site population of approximately 10,000 workers. Support staff in the Occupational Health Group includes: physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, diagnostic and radiology technicians, health case managers, medical records personnel, clinical psychologists, employee assistance counselors, a registered dietician, health and fitness staff (including PT and OT), and an ergonomic staff.
