Los Alamos National Laboratory Business Systems Analyst (Systems Analyst 2 / 3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Come join our team! The Software and Applications Engineering Division is looking for a seasoned, experienced and highly motivated systems analyst professional to lead and deliver IT initiatives (within ADBI) as a part of the SAE-4 Business Systems Solution Center at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

This position will be filled at either the System Analyst 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The selected candidate will support SAE-4 by providing system analyst support on assigned projects and collaborating with other technical staff to deliver on requirements. This role requires collaboration with other senior systems analysts, as well as external collaboration with business customers, end-users and other IT professionals. The selected candidate is expected to uphold high standards of professionalism while executing their work and promote collaboration and teamwork throughout.

System Analyst 2 ($72,500-$118,200)

  • Analyzes business and user needs on non-complex systems, in support of system modification or development, documents requirements and revisits system logic difficulties as necessary.

  • System Analyst 2 configures system settings and options, plans and executes unit, integration and acceptance testing; and creates specifications for systems to meet business requirements. Incumbent is responsible for designing details of automated systems.

System Analyst 3 ($87,800-$144,800)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the System Analyst 3 will be required to:

  • Provide leadership and direction for individual initiatives with cross-organizational teams, where necessary leads a feasibility study or market survey during a software search and provides IT expertise and documentation for software procurements

  • Work on unusually significant, unique or complex issues and provide solutions that are highly creative

  • Create complex system integration and responsible for automating testing of systems

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of application development tools and techniques, development and management, including basic knowledge of software lifecycle activities.

  • Demonstrated experience reviewing, understanding, and documenting end-to-end work processes.

  • Experience translating technical terms to layperson’s terms and presenting to audiences outside of IT.

  • Demonstrated experience with good oral and written communication, organization and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing and problem solving; such as Tier 3 system issues.

  • Proven experience in learn quickly, move with agility between assignments, multi-task and to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in customer focus, interpersonal savvy and perseverance skills with minimal guidance for non-complex systems.

Additional Job Requirements for System Analyst 3:

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at theSystem Analyst 3 level requires:

  • Demonstrated experience working independently to elicit and document requirements on complex systems, including business process flow documentation and requirements traceability matrix

  • Demonstrated experience with excellent analytical skills to assess complex business problems and identify technology opportunities.

  • Experience in Software lifecycle knowledge including requirements, design, and development and testing with appropriate documentation – Work experience must show progressively increasing levels of complexity of work.

  • Demonstrated ability analyzing situations or data that require an in-depth evaluation of variable factors and developing resolutions that require creativity.

  • Demonstrated experience with excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Experience interacting with all levels of personnel and customers.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience working with Enterprise Software either On Premise COTS or Cloud Software solutions.

  • Experience working with LANL business processes and use of LANL Business applications.

  • Experience working with Enterprise Software Benefit applications.

  • Experience working with Benefits Administration policy and procedure.

  • Experience with Enterprise wide reporting tools.


  • Systems Analyst 2 – typically requires a minimum of 4 years of related experience. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  • Systems Analyst 3 – typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience. Post-graduate degree and/or professional certification(s) and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
