Los Alamos National Laboratory Computational Geometry Linking Scientist 1 (Scientist 1) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do_
LANL develops large scale, massively parallel, multi-physics simulation codes employed by a broad user base. Within XCP-1, the SimTools Team develops and maintains geometry modeling, mesh generation, code to code linking, and simulation management software for the LANL users of these multi-physics simulation codes. The SimTools Team currently has an opening for an entry-level software developer in the general area of code linking.
The successful candidate will be involved in the research and development of simulation links between various code types such as, finite element codes (especially Abaqus) to finite volume and other codes. The candidate will complete implementation of these methods into production code (using excellent software development practices), the testing of these methods, and educating and supporting users as they adopt these methods. As such, the ability to work well in a team environment is extremely important, as is the ability to interact with users in an efficient and productive manner.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Effectively work as part of a team
Proficiency with C++ and Python programming on Linux systems
Experience as user of Abaqus
Self-starter; demonstrated initiative for continuous learning and development in area of expertise
Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance (which normally requires U.S. citizenship and always requires a drug-free life)
Experience with extension of Abaqus, including adding user subroutines and/or using the Abaqus python script interface
Experience developing geometric modeling software such as CAD systems and/or libraries
Working knowledge of mesh generation methods and algorithms, such as block-structured meshing, paving, and advancing front triangle/tetrahedral meshing
Experience developing and/or using computational physics software (e.g., CFD, FEA, Eulerian and/or Lagrange hydrodynamics, etc.)
Working knowledge of both distributed and shared memory parallel programming and associated libraries (e.g., MPI, OpenMP, OpenCL, etc.)
Working knowledge of GUI development with Qt and/or data visualization with OpenGL
Experience working with job submission and batch processing systems, such as LSF, MOAB, etc.
Working knowledge of scientific data analysis and visualization techniques
Active Q clearance
MS or PhD in applied mathematics, engineering, physics, computer science, or related field, or equivalent experience is strongly preferred.
