What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Computer & Information Security Specialist 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Defense Security Program Office (DFS-PO) is seeking an experienced information security professional to become a member of our IP Video Surveillance Technology Team. As the Information Security Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for selecting IP video cameras, video management systems, setting up approved network servers and data storage capabilities, reviewing and approving design drawings, assisting in installation, and testing and acceptance of our DFS IP video camera systems. You will also be responsible for maintaining our fixed and mobile IP video surveillance technology systems. The IP Video Surveillance Technology Team provides a secure and compliant IP video networked computing environment for execution of mission-driven national security programs.

In this position you will have the opportunity to perform the full spectrum of computer and security specialist duties. You will work under the Program Lead and with LANL customers, IT professionals, and other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure information technology systems for the applications of IP video surveillance (both fixed and mobile systems) are designed, developed, implemented and maintained with required security features and safeguards. You will develop and implement appropriate mitigation controls using a Risk Management Framework (RMF).

Computer & Information Security Specialist 2 ($73,000-$120,400)

Key responsibilities of the Security Systems Specialist 2 include but are not limited to:

  • Working under the IP Video Program Lead and serving as a system administrator on DFS and/or ALDESHQSS IP camera systems to address IP video operating software issues

  • Providing hardware support, to include troubleshooting, diagnoses, repair, and performance of preventive maintenance tasks on the IP video systems and equipment

  • Responding to error messages, loss of video data, systems crashes, equipment failures, and user concerns

Computer & Information Security Spec 3 ($89,900-$148,300)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Computer & Information Security Specialist 3 will:

  • Serve as a technical expert for providing compliant IP mobile and networked video security solutions at LANL

  • Develop advanced methods, techniques, and standards to implement network monitoring tools used by the IP video industry

  • Implement and support IT solutions, security patches and updates to ensure protection of system confidentiality, integrity and availability

  • Design, develop, implement and maintain continuous monitoring systems

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of LANL cyber and physical security policies and procedures

  • Specialized knowledge and understanding of IT network systems

  • Experience with Cisco, Linux and UNIX operating systems

  • Demonstrated knowledge of IP hardware, software and networking infrastructure

  • Familiarity with a wide range of IP cameras such as Axis, Arecont, Avigilon, Bosh, Sony and others

  • Comprehensive understanding of Department of Energy (DOE) and Laboratory computer and information security policies, practices, and procedures

  • Ability to interpret Engineering Drawings or AutoCAD designs for the installation of IP video systems

  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Additional Job Requirements for Computer & Information Security Specialist 3

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Computer & Information Security Specialist 3 level requires:

  • Extensive knowledge of central security control system, video equipment and software, and database to install, configure, and maintain security system

  • Extensive knowledge of computer workstations, servers, and area networks

  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing complex computer security plans

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of network and host system security issues and concepts, compliance, and certification

  • Experience maintaining awareness of the security state of information systems on an ongoing basis through enhanced monitoring processes

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledgeable in cyber security best practices and standards applicable to the use of IP video systems;

  • Knowledge of and experience with Risk Management Framework (RMF);

  • Experience configuring and operating IP video network and data management systems; and

  • Professional certifications

Education:

Computer & Information Security Specialist 2 Education Requirements: BS or BA Degree in Computer Science, IT Technologies, or security-related field and a minimum of 5 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of formal training and relevant IP video work experience.

Computer & Information Security Specialist 3 Education Requirements: BS or BA Degree in Computer Science, IT Technologies, or security-related field and a minimum of 8 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of formal training and relevant IP video work experience. Advance degree desirable.
