What You Will Do
The Information Systems and Modeling Group (A-1) is responsible for targeted, systems-level solutions to national security problems. The selected candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop and implement integrated solutions for the DOE, DoD, and DHS. Work with project leaders and senior level scientists to implement new scientific algorithms for desktop, mobile, high-performance computing, and/or cloud based applications.
This position will be filled at either the Computing Systems Professional 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Exceptional candidates may be considered for a higher-level position, and additional job responsibilities will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Computing Systems Professional 1 ($60,400 – $95,900)
Work as part of a diverse team in a collaborative and multidisciplinary technical environment.
Provide technical support services; design, specify, and develop solutions for complex heterogeneous computing infrastructure.
Gather customer requirements; perform risk management functions; perform capacity and availability planning for computing infrastructure; perform effective communication both, verbal and written, at all levels.
Provide resolutions to an assortment of problems of moderately complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
Contribute to the fulfillment of projects and organizational objectives under supervision and review.
Computing Systems Professional 2 ($72,500-$118,200)
In addition to the job responsibilities outlined above, the Computing Systems Professional 2 will:
Perform research and development to identify and implement applicable emerging technologies in the Laboratory computing environment.
Identify, promote, and develop appropriate new Laboratory-wide technical capabilities.
Contribute full understanding of a specialized area plus working knowledge of other related fields.
Resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways.
Contribute to the development of organization's goals and objectives.
Mentor junior staff.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a complex and diverse team in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.
Demonstrated interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Familiar with installing, maintaining, and securing Windows, Mac, and numerous Linux operating systems, as well as diagnosing and solving both hardware and software issues that may arise.
Familiar with programming with C, C++, BASH, Perl, and/or Python programming languages in combination with a demonstrated foundation of network programming.
Ability to contribute to the design, testing, analysis, verification, and validation of scientific solutions in support of R&D; initiatives.
Ability to obtain a DOE Q and SCI clearances, which normally requires U.S. citizenship.
Minimum of two years related experience, or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, computer networking, or computer engineering) is required.
In addition to the job requirements outlined above, the Computing Systems Professional 2 requires:
Experience in the configuration and security of physical and virtual computing environments.
Experience in the implementation and configuration of various routing and switching devices.
Experience in network design with both large and small-scale networks.
Experience in installing, maintaining, and securing Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems, as well as diagnosing and solving both hardware and software issues.
Experience programming with C, C++, BASH, Perl, and/or Python programming languages in combination with a demonstrated foundation of network programming.
Ability to develop new methods, techniques or approaches to address critical technical problems.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, computer networking, or computer engineering) and a minimum of four years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in multidisciplinary collaboration.
Experience with high-performance computing systems, map/reduce, or cloud computing platforms.
Willingness to learn, be flexible, and adapt to emerging technologies.
Current Q and SCI clearances.
Clearance: Q/SCI(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.
