What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the CSP-2 or CSP-3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. Computing Systems Professional 2 ($72,500 - $118,200)

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Support Mac desktop systems on the unclassified network

  • Support Windows servers and desktop systems on the unclassified network

  • Provide technical leadership for server projects

  • Write and maintain administrative scripts to manage a Windows Server environment

  • Support a private server/client networked environment

  • Install, configure and troubleshoot Mac desktops and network issues, including wireless and role-based access control in a heterogeneous environment

  • Resolve issues or fulfill requests through Windows/Mac remote support

  • Troubleshoot issues through on-site field support

  • Communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel

  • Mentor and train fellow team members in advanced Windows/Mac system administration

  • Practice Information Architecture and XIT-ISS processes and standards

Computing Systems Professional 3 ($87,800 - $144,800)In addition to the duties outlined above, the (higher level title) will be required to:

  • Plan, design, document and implement VMware ESXi

  • Automate system configurations and server tasks using programming and scripting

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Advanced experience in Windows Server (2008 and higher) system administration.

  • Significant experience in Mac desktop system administration.

  • Significant experience managing projects to fulfill customer technical needs.

  • Demonstrated experience writing automation scripts to manage a Windows environment.

  • Experience supporting 3rd party vendor instrumentation.

  • Experience solving complex software and hardware issues in a heterogeneous computing environment.

  • Experience troubleshooting problems using Bomgar, SSH, or similar tools to remotely administer systems.

  • Experience implementing network security measures in a private network environment.

  • Extensive experience interacting with customers and peers in a professional and responsive manner including mentoring or giving presentations.

  • Experience with “Best Practices”, processes and standards.

  • Knowledge of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client/server principles.

  • Experience solving software and hardware issues in a heterogeneous computing environment.

  • Experience scripting automated tasks.

  • Knowledge of system security measures including encryption and network hardening techniques.

  • Ability to review, understand, and document end-to-end work processes.

  • Stewardship of resource allocation, time and effort, teamwork skills, training and property.

Additional Job Requirements for Computing Systems Professional 3In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the CSP-3level requires:

  • Knowledge of emerging computing technologies.

  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning; project management including specifying, budgeting, scheduling, testing and implementing server and workstations solutions.

  • Experience solving complex software and hardware issues in a heterogeneous computing environment.

Desired Skills:

  • Currently hold a DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance.

  • Ability to program in a compiled or interpretive language.

  • Experience with Linux and/or UNIX server administration.

  • Advanced vendor certification (Mac and/or Windows Server)

Education:

Computing Systems Professional 2 Education Required:This position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.

Computing Systems Professional 3 Education Required: This position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns. eXperience IT (XIT) is seeking an energetic and customer-focused professional Windows Server and MAC System Administrator for the XIT Institutional Systems Services (XIT-ISS) group. XIT-ISS consists of approximately 120 professionals, technicians, contractors and students. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day technical support services in a heterogeneous computing environment for XIT-ISS customers. The successful candidate will work on a team supporting ADPSM customers at TA-55, in PF-4 (Human Reliability Program enrollment) and other locations across the laboratory.
