What You Will Do

The Contractor Assurance Specialist 2 position will be a member of the Institutional Quality and Performance Assurance-Performance Assurance (IQPA-PA) group, and will be deployed to support the Science & Technology Operations Division (STO-DO). Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing support as an issues management coordinator

  • Supporting the implementation of other Contractor Assurance System (CAS) elements, such as lessons learned, risk management, metrics, assessments, and trending

  • Working with STO-DO management to coordinate fact findings and critiques

  • Supporting IQPA-PA continuous improvement activities

This position will work independently and on teams, and will report to the IQPA-PA Institutional CAS Integration Team Leader (primary) and functionally to the Science & Technology Operations (STO-DO) Division Leader (customer).

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience with issues management program implementation, including assisting in the development of corrective actions.

  • Working knowledge of more the following CAS processes: causal analysis, effectiveness evaluations, metrics and trending, assessments, lessons learned, or performance/process improvement.

  • Proven success working independently and in a team environment, with both internal and external customers.

  • Excellent customer service skills, including both written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience gathering and analyzing information that is reported and presented to a management team and/or external customer.

  • Experience in effective decision-making and risk management regarding complex technical issues.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with LANL organization structure, policies and procedures, and CAS-related requirements and systems/tools.

  • Knowledge of DOE O 226.1B, Implementation of Department of Energy Oversight Policy and associated Contractor Assurance System (CAS), or similar assurance standards and systems.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to lead and engage people; and team building skills.

  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Education: Typically requires a relevant Bachelor's degree and a minimum five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Prior experience in organizational-level performance-based management, quality, and/or a technical discipline related to area of assignment preferred.

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

The IQPA-PA group is within the IQPA Division at LANL. IQPA-PA provides LANL managers with the performance-based processes and tools to achieve excellence through continuous improvement while 1) supporting management of risk, 2) enabling safe secure mission delivery, and 3) facilitating accessibility of data for oversight. The IQPA-PA group is responsible for implementing the Contractor Assurance System (CAS) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in accordance with DOE 226.1B. Key elements of LANL’s CAS system include:

  • Risk management,

  • Assessments,

  • Lessons learned,

  • Metrics and trending,

  • Performance improvement, and

  • Issues and corrective actions management (including causal analysis and effectiveness evaluations).
