What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Cybersecurity Technical Staff 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Cybersecurity Technical Staff 1 ($72,500 - $118,200)

The selected candidate will serve as part of the Windows effort development and will be responsible for:

  • Third tier support for Microsoft Windows issues

  • Working with stake holders at all levels and across organizational boundaries

  • Evaluating Microsoft Windows operating systems for suitability for use at LANL

  • Evaluating new tools, researching exploitation methods and techniques, and appying solutions to cyber security issues.

  • Designing, developing and modifying institutional Group Policy objects.

Cybersecurity Technical Staff 2 ($87,400 - $128,200)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Cybersecurity Technical Staff 2 will be expected to:

  • Develop security tools for Windows O/S using PowerShell and Microsoft Visual Studio.

  • Ensure effective project management and change control.

  • Analyze and document software requirements

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Cybersecurity Technical Staff 1:

  • Ability to work in an unclassified and classified environment

  • Superior customer service skills

  • Strong troubleshooting skills

  • Deep knowledge and expertise with Microsoft Windows Desktop and Server OS.

  • Experience creating group policy and troubleshooting

  • PowerShell scripting experience

Additional Job Requirements for Cybersecurity Technical Staff 2:

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Cybersecurity Technical Staff 2 level requires:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently analyzing problems, proposing, implementing and documenting solutions

  • Strong understanding of computing systems security issues

  • Demonstrated experience with C# programming language

Desired Skills:

  • Advanced Active Directory knowledge

  • Working familiarity with compliance requirements (e.g. NIST 800-53, FIPS 199, CNSSI 1253, etc.) and processes.

  • Position related certifications are helpful (MSCE, MCSA, MCP, GSEC, etc.).

  • Strong C# and .Net programming language skills

  • Strong documentation and writing skills


  • Cybersecurity Technical Staff 1 Position requires a bachelor’s degree in a technical field and a minimum of 2 years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Cybersecurity Technical Staff 2 Position requires a bachelor’s degree in a technical field and a minimum of 4 years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The NIE-CDS Development Services Team has an opening for a Cybersecurity Technical Staff Member supporting the Microsoft Windows effort. This is a high profile position with enterprise wide impact that directly supports, science, cyber-security and compliance. This position will work in a team environment to design, develop, deploy, and support a variety of tools for LANL classified and unclassified networks. This position will also interface with the Information System Security Manager, NIE-CDS and ADBI management to identify trends in security and develop remediation strategies. You will work in the Network and Infrastructure Engineering Division supporting a computing environment scaling from “desktop to teraflops,” a diverse and challenging network environment unavailable anywhere else.
