Los Alamos National Laboratory Data Architect/Engineer (Solutions Architect 3/4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The SAE Division seeks a dynamic, experienced data architect with a strong vision for combining lean, efficient data delivery with a commitment to maintaining high standards for data quality and security.
This position will be filled at either the Data Architect/Engineer (Solutions Architect 3) or Senior Data Architect/Engineer (Solutions Architect 4) level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The Data Architect/Engineer will serve a key role in the Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division, providing technical leadership in architecting the next generation of reporting and analytics at the Laboratory. As a Data Architect, this position will design a logical data warehouse using Data Virtualization and other data integration techniques as part of the implementation of a new reporting system, to support both enterprise reporting and advanced analytics by data scientists. As a Data Engineer, this position will work with Developers and DBAs to design and tune particular data structures and load processes to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Data Architect/Engineer (Solutions Architect 3) ($96,600 - $161,300)
The successful candidate will be required to:
Create and maintain enterprise data models for new and existing data structures
Create and maintain design documentation for the enterprise data architecture
Develop standards for data design and implementation
Work with developers to design specific data structures and load processes in accordance with provided requirements
Supervise the implementation of designed data structures to ensure optimal performance and adherence to development standards
Review and approve developed data structures prior to implementation
Monitor performance of data structures and load processes and devise strategies and recommendations for remediating poorly performing structures and processes
Provide leadership to a cross-functional team for the implementation of a new reporting and analytics platform
Senior Data Architect/Engineer (Solutions Architect 4) ($116,900 - $197,000)In addition to the duties outlined above, the Senior Data Architect/Engineer will be required to:
Work with SAE Division Leadership to devise data strategies in accordance with broader Division goals
Evaluate emerging data technologies and advise SAE Division Leadership on opportunities for expanding and enhancing its data services
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated strong analytic and problem-solving abilities
Successful experience leading a small team of 2-5 developers
Expert knowledge and experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases, including advanced SQL, PL/SQL, and T-SQL
Familiarity with best practices for data warehousing and reporting design
At least 5 years of experience with ETL and data integration
At least 2 years of experience with data modelling
At least 2 years of experience designing and configuring OLAP systems, such as OBIEE, Microstrategy, SSAS, or comparable platforms
Additional Job Requirements for Senior Data Architect/Engineer (Solutions Architect 4):In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Senior Data Architect/Engineer (Solutions Architect 4)level requires:
At least 2 years of experience in a Data Architect role
Successful experience leading a team of 5-10 developers
Desired Skills:
Experience with Data Virtualization platforms such as Denodo or Cisco/Composite.
Experience with Oracle EBS and a strong understanding of the underlying EBS data structures
Project Management experience
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
Data Architect/Engineer (Solutions Architect 3) Education Required:
At least 10 years of experience developing data systems in general
A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Senior Data Architect/Engineer (Solutions Architect 4) Education Required:
At least 15 years of experience developing data systems in general
At this level, postgraduate coursework may be expected
