What You Will Do

NPI-8 is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Designated Procurement Representative.The selected candidate will effectively and compliantly procure programmatic and facility related equipment and materials in support of programmatic and facility operations at TA55 and RLUOB. This is a vital part of ensuring programmatic and facility milestones and deliverables are met.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Procure equipment and materials for multiple programs at TA-55.

  • Assist requesters with developing procurement packages, ensuring packages are complete and compliant in accordance with LANL policies and procedures as well as applicable quality standards.

  • Utilize a variety of automated systems to manage and track procurements.

  • Screen requestor input for completeness and compliance with institutional, technical, and quality requirements.

  • Identify and select appropriate methods for procurement, and expedite orders.

  • Maintain a professional atmosphere, be detail oriented, provide excellent customer service and exercise excellent communication skills.

  • Maintain records in several applications for all purchase requests.

  • Effectively communicate with the customers. Assist with ensuring items are ordered and expedited in accordance with both LANL and Program requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform procurement related functions in a fast paced, highly regulated environment.

  • Proven ability to exercise independent judgment to determine how to best serve customer and organizational needs.

  • Proven ability to provide excellent customer service and work cohesively in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and suppliers.

  • Ability to comply with Laboratory practices, policies, and procedures specifically relating to procurement and quality.

  • Proficient in Project Management software including MS Office, MS Excel, MS Word, Access, etc.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy of information.

  • Excellent organization skills and possess an ability to manage multiple conflicting high priority purchase orders simultaneously in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to obtain Q access authorization.

Desired Skills:

  • Record of effective written and oral communicationskills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions.

  • Proven record of using independent judgment and initiative to prepare and review procurement related document (i.e., specifications, quotations and quality documents.)

  • Experience purchasing material in a nuclear facility and/or high-regulated environment.

  • Experience preparing and reviewing technical information.

  • Experience purchasing a consistent high volume of material for multiple customers.

  • Knowledge of NQA-1 and NAP24 quality drivers.

Education Required:

Bachelor'sdegree or higher inan engineering, scientific, or business management discipline, from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years practical work experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

The Designated Procurement Representative (DPR) / Production Control Specialist (PCS) will report to the Material Management & Business Solutions (NPI-8) Procurement Team First Line Manager within the Nuclear Process Infrastructure Division under the Weapons Production Directorate (ALDWP). The NPI-8 Materials Management and Business Solutions Group provides an array of procurement and warehousing support services critical to ALDWP operations at TA-55, RLW, TWF and RLUOB. The group has dedicated staff that strive to deliver Best in Class procurement and warehousing support to enable plutonium science and manufacturing in support of the national defense. NPI-8 provides technical procedure writers, training support, document control, records management, classified and unclassified computer support services for ALDWP and all personnel at the TA-55, TA-50, TA-35 and CMR locations.
