What You Will Do
The Electronics Production Technologist will contribute to the coordination of operational and programmatic efforts within the Space Instrument Realization group between all disciplines such as: Payload fabrication and assembly for fabrication, assembly, testing, and ultimate delivery for launch. The selected candidate will be a contributing member of the satellite instrument team (project management, physicists, engineers, technicians) when needed to ensure continued project progress. Plan and execute electronic component procurements for team members in a responsible manner assuring items are ordered expeditiously so as not to impact project schedule. This includes coordination with outside vendors for printed circuit card assembly when necessary. Participate in weekly planning meetings and provide status updates to leadership.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Exhaustive communication with Project Leaders, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Systems Engineers, Project Controls, Test Technicians, Mechanical Technicians, Fabricators, QA Inspectors and Stock Room personnel on progress and issues within each area of responsibility below
Research parts availability, alternatives, Request for Quotes
Submit orders into LANL systems
Monitor outstanding orders
Receive, verify and distribute
Assembly Preparation & Tracking
Update Bills Of Materials (BOMs)
Run shortage reports
Submit kitting requests
Generate and compile travelers and supporting documentation
Facilitate coordination between Fab Shop, mechanical and engineering
Monitor assembly progress, provide forecast updates
In-process serial number and BOM modification tracking
Final product documentation preparation and archival
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated excellent communication and effective interactions with a variety of personnel from all job categories including: Project Leaders, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Systems Engineers, Project Controls, Test Technicians, Mechanical Technicians, Fabricators, QA Inspectors and Stock Room personnel
Experience working with space-based and/or high reliability subsystems and assemblies.
Knowledge of electronic fabrication techniques and tools (especially printed circuit card assembly).
Familiarity with electronic components (technical acumen associated with electrical engineering issues).
Ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
Established skills for multi-tasking, displaying initiative and problem solving.
Demonstrated experience performing complex and demanding assignments requiring initiative and independent judgment
Demonstrated experience with document control and inventory databases.
Demonstrated record of commitment to safety, security, environment, and quality
Ability to obtain a Q clearance.
Education: This position requires an associate’s degree in engineering, technology, science, math or related field or equivalent years of relevant experience in lieu of degree requirement; and at least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
