What You Will Do

The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the performance the following duties of this position in the areas of electrical, instrumentation and control, mechanical, structural/civil, or fire protection engineering:

  • Supporting configuration management of assigned systems.

  • Defining and controlling system modifications.

  • Implementing the authorization basis.

  • Maintaining technical baseline.

  • Monitoring, tracking, and trending of major systems.

  • Defining maintenance requirements.

  • Troubleshooting.

  • Performing root cause analysis.

  • Preparing corrective maintenance instructions for complex or critical operations.

  • Preparing engineered equivalency analysis.

  • Complying with the LANL Conduct of Engineering (COE) Program.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge/understanding of engineering concepts applicable to the person’s discipline.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in teams to get projects accomplished.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbally.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of DOE standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance.

  • Demonstrated experience in design engineering or system engineering for nuclear or industrial facility operations.

  • Demonstrated experience in engineering including design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical baseline maintenance.

  • Demonstrated experience with industry standards.

Education Required: Bachelors of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university.

The Cognizant System Engineer (CSE) position within ES Division is assigned to the Facility System Engineering & Management (ES-FE) Group responsible for plant engineering services and the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program implementation at LANL.
