What You Will Do

Reporting to the TA-55 Deployed Security Group Leader and Team Leader at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) the TA-55 Deployed Security Group’s primary mission is to provide professional, hands-on security support to assist customers with security integration into programmatic and facility work. DSOs conduct a variety of security related duties and interface with the institutional security program owners, project personnel, facility personnel, and high level visitors to the plutonium facility.

The successful applicant will work with ALDWP, CMR, RLW, TA-55, TWF, RANT, WCCRF, and project personnel to:

  • Integrate ISSM into all work activities.

  • Ensure security requirements are met.

  • Provide Access Control for TA-55 facilities.

  • Coordinate core security inspections and work at the facilities (CMR, TA-55, RLW, RLUOB, TWF, RANT, WCCRF).

  • Coordinate security activities in the Protected Area (PA) and Material Access Area (MAA) to include escorting and hosting visitors/workers.

  • Assist with the coordination of security inspections, drills, and exercises at the facilities.

  • Assist with the coordination of security upgrades, maintenance, and other work with all involved parties.

  • Determine when Activity Security Plans or Exhibit G’s are required and assist in developing them.

  • Act as a controller for security and emergency drills.

  • Provide guidance on prohibited and controlled articles.

  • Assist in mitigating security incidents.

  • Act as a vault/vtr custodian and escort.

  • Act as an administrator for the TA-55 Secure VTC.

  • Issue keys/cores.

The successful candidate must be results and performance oriented with a track record of leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate must be highly motivated and able to excel with minimal supervision and work in a team environment.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • General knowledge and experience in one or more of the following security areas: personnel security, access control, information security, classified matter protection and control, and/or physical security.

  • Demonstrated experience building strong working relationships with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience effectively interacting with customers in a customer service setting.

  • Ability to communicate clearly via emails and verbally and write clear reports.

  • Entry level experience working with and/or building/manipulating data in SQL relational databases or SharePoint.

  • General knowledge of requirements for working in a vault/VTR or alarmed access areas.

  • Experience working in a high paced environment with numerous interruptions and conflicting priorities.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience working with Argus and Apollo access control systems.

  • Experience conducting research, investigating alternatives, and recommending solutions on problems affecting security & safeguards.

  • Experience with security & safeguards self-assessments, audits, inspections, causal analysis, and corrective actions.

  • Experience dealing with security & safeguards program requirements, including but not limited to the Security Incidents, Protective Force Operations, Physical Security, Vulnerability Assessments, Physical Security Systems, Access Control, Operation Security (OPSEC), Lock and Key Program, Property Protection Program, Protective Force operations, classified Matter Protection and Control (CMPC) Program and inquiries.

  • Experience with TA-55 Access Control Office, Entry Control Facility and West Vehicle Access, and/or ALDWP/TA-55 Facility Operations experience.

  • Basic knowledge of exhibit G’s.

  • Basic understanding of prohibited and controlled articles.

  • Experience administrating Secure VTCs.

  • Working knowledge of Lab-wide administrative systems (Oracle, Time and Labor, Concur) and computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint).

Education: A minimum of 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • As a deployed security specialist, the selected candidate(s) may be subject to moves within the organization to meet customer organization’s security needs. Assignments may overlap into TA-55 FOD, CMR FOD, and ALDWP or other laboratory organizations.

  • This position may require alternate work schedules/hours.

  • The chosen candidate will need to be able to walk up to a mile at a time based on parking and proximity to the facility. They must be able to receive certification as a radiation worker as the work will take them into radiation areas where they will be required to don protective clothing. The work can have the employee working outdoors year round for several hours a day regardless of temperature or conditions. Candidate must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Candidate must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Additional Details:

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
