What You Will Do

The NIE workforce is comprised of Cybersecurity Technical Staff, Computing Systems Tec & Professionals, System Programmers, Solutions Architects, Computer Operator Technicians, IT Managers, Network Professionals, Network Security Professionals, Telecommunications Specialists and undergraduate/graduate students. NIE is seeking graduate level students looking for a challenging paid internship. Each selected candidate will be provided with a mentor and be assigned to a team based on their skills and interests and on the needs of the organization. The division is organized within five groups and provides the following services:

  • Configuration and Development Services (NIE-CDS) - provides enterprise level configuration management, vulnerability patching and remediation, and system and software development needed for those services.

  • Infrastructure Services (NIE-IS) - responsible for providing unclassified and classified institutional compute and storage, operating systems (OS) support for Laboratory business systems, institutional network services, and managing the institutional datacenters.

  • Engineering and Security Services (NIE-ESS) - responsible for the Lab's classified and unclassified institutional network services and for the security of the institutional network infrastructure.

  • Core Services (NIE-CS) - provides production systems for the division. A primary responsibility of this group is managing infrastructure for LANL’s Enterprise information technology applications.

  • Telecommunication Services (NIE-TS) - provides telecommunication technologies and services enabling science, programs, and operations at LANL. The group provides theentire Lab with voice, wireless, data, and video communication services.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Currentlyenrolled in an accredited graduate degree program in any Information Technology discipline (or equivalent), to include: o Administrator (database or computer systems) o Analyst (information security or computer systems) o Big Data o Computer Engineering o Computer Networking o Computer Programmer o Computer Science o Cyber Security o Developer (software or web) o IT Management o Management Information Systems o Network Engineer

  • Mustbe enrolled in at least 6 semester credit hours (or full-time equivalent). Entering graduate students must provide documentation indicating matriculation into a graduate degree program.

  • Mustcurrently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

The Network and Infrastructure Engineering (NIE) Division manages the network, telecommunications, collaboration, cyber defenses, and virtual computing infrastructure for the Laboratory. NIE is seeking graduate level students looking for a challenging paid internship for the current academic year and/or summer. Each selected candidate will be provided with a mentor and be assigned to a team based on their skills and interests and on the needs of the organization.
