What You Will Do
Triad is establishing a new work group to perform Waste Generator Services (WGS) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The WGS Group Leader will lead a large group (75-100 people) of waste management coordinators. The Group Leader will report to the Division Leader for Environmental Protection and Compliance and will manage part of the organization responsible for technical leadership, oversight, and management of a centralized waste management service organization to include Low Level Radioactive Waste, Mixed Low Level Waste, and Hazardous Waste.
The primary responsibilities for the WGS Group Leader will be to develop, establish, and manage a turnkey waste management program for LANL. This will include the following tasks:
Develop/establish turnkey waste operations to allow customers to focus on mission critical work and provide Division Management with cradle to grave operational control and oversight.
Manage waste characterization and management-related activities that are compliant with all applicable laws and regulations governing these activities.
Proactively work with waste generators, the LANL Pollution Prevention program, and other compliance programs to achieve source reduction, waste minimization, and improved accountability by establishing structured customer relationships and improve cost-effectiveness for waste management.
Provide waste generators support and issue resolution assistance.
Expand waste management operations to adequately address identified compliance and operational gaps to ensure safe, effective and compliant waste management services.
Implement and manage a new environmental waste management technician training pipeline program for long-term succession planning and career path development.
Manage planning for waste generation by effectively managing a staff of Waste Management Coordinators (WMCs) and Waste Management Technicians (WMTs).
The Group Leader will help to establish and implement a customer focused approach to waste management to include characterization, profile planning, storage, treatment and disposal. The Group Leader will participate in the achievement of Division goals for programmatic, business, and operational excellence and be responsible for strategic planning and tactical execution of waste management field implementation. The Group Leader will foster high quality compliance and technical support to include sustained and effective relationships with principal stakeholders. Emphasis will be placed on ensuring the Group has the capabilities necessary to support programmatic mission success through resource allocation, succession planning, mentoring, recruiting, and retaining qualified staff.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Detailed knowledge and experience in waste stream planning and characterization.
Demonstrated advanced knowledge and experience with federal and state environmental and waste management regulations, policies, and procedures, including, but not necessarily limited to, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments, Hazardous Waste Packaging and Transportation, and Radioactive Materials Shipping.
Demonstrated advanced knowledge of waste management program development and administration.
Demonstrated ability to ensure compliance with environmental and waste management requirements.
Demonstrated advanced leadership and mentoring experience in the development of personnel and succession planning in a large complex business environment.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, interact, and work with internal customers/generators, regulators, local agencies, and the Public
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with treatment storage and disposal facilities.
Record of effective technical leadership that emphasizes organizational skills, strategic and tactical planning, resource management, team building, program development, project management, financial management, and business plan development.
Ability to change the thinking of or gain acceptance from others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship and ability to achieve organizational goals.
Ability to lead a team of professionals with a record of successful teamwork and consensus building consistent with working across organizational and program/project boundaries.

Knowledge of the Laboratory’s waste tracking systems.
Causal analysis experience.
Education: Position typically requires a Bachelor’s, Master's, or PhD in physical sciences, environmental, civil, or chemical engineering, public health, hazardous materials management, waste technology, other related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5-years of related management experience.
