What You Will Do_

Become a part of the team that provides leadership in the Laboratory’s core capability of Accelerators and Electrodynamics. Here you will support National Security missions involving radiographic imaging, remote measurements of electromagnetic signatures, and development of new capabilities. Your work will include Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) proton accelerator complex operations, and applied R&D; in accelerator-focused technologies.

Specifically, as a member of the Hardware team, you will be expected to design, prototype, install, test, and maintain new LANSCE beam diagnostic instrumentation, control, and timing systems as well as modify, upgrade and maintain existing systems.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrate a record of technical accomplishments in the AOT technical focus areas; large control system development, automation system design, process controls, motion controls, data acquisition, electronics, and operations support.

  • Ability to apply the engineering design cycle: requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, and support.

  • Formal training in software development; i.e. Allen Bradley PLCs, National Instruments’ LabVIEW.

  • Experience in FPGA and/or DSP programming.

  • Availability for potential 24-hour on-call support of AOT-IC accelerator hardware.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated operations and maintenance experience at an accelerator or large scientific facility.

  • Working knowledge and/or formal training in fiber optics technologies.

  • Working knowledge of VME, CAMAC, cRIO, timing systems, and high speed data acquisition systems.

  • Experience in the design, fabrication, procurement, and testing of electronic systems related to beam instrumentation or low-level RF systems.

  • Knowledge of and experience with component level design of RF filters, mixers, and low power amplifier circuits as well as general analog circuits.

  • Proficiency with standard RF test instrumentation.

Education:Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an ABET accredited engineering college or university program in Electrical Engineering or closely related engineering field.
