What You Will Do
Reporting to the Industrial Safety and Hygiene (ISH) Core Programs Team Leader, the Industrial Hygiene and Safety (IHS) Professional is responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing safety programs and procedures associated with the recognition, evaluation, and control of potential safety hazards. The IHS Professional will provide daily safety support to programmatic and facility organizations along with deployed IHS Professionals to ensure the protection of workers, and compliance with Laboratory IHS safety requirements. The IHS Professional will use professional industrial hygiene concepts to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. The IHS Professional is responsible for collaborating with the work force, performing qualitative/quantitative industrial hygiene evaluations and developing solutions to complex safety problems that may require in‐depth analysis of work activities. The IHS Professional will promote safety, security, and quality in all operations; promote teamwork within the organization and across the Laboratory; promote a positive work environment; work toward continuous safety program improvement; and deliver exceptional customer service. What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Basic knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) life safety code, 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910, General Industry, and 1926, Construction, and American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienist (ACGIH) TLV’s
Basic knowledge of and/or experience with industrial hygiene and safety controls and the surveillance of related safety measures and requirements.
Basic knowledge of and/or experience with industrial hygiene/safety‐related risk assessments and corrective actions.
Basic knowledge of and/or experience with common and unique work hazards, occupational safety practices, operating configuration, and lockout/tagout policies and practices.
Basic knowledge of and/or basic experience with techniques and procedures for IHS monitoring, sample plan development and sample analysis.
Good knowledge of industrial hygiene direct monitoring equipment.
Basic knowledge skill in preparing written reports and communicating basic elements of industrial hygiene/safety to technical and non‐technical personnel.
Basic knowledge of statistical analysis techniques (descriptive and inferential) for trend identification.
Basic knowledge of office automation application (i.e., spreadsheets, graphics, database management, communication practices, the compliance tracking system (CTS).
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively within a team environment and provide excellent customer service.
A bachelor’s degree in related technical discipline and a minimum of two years of related experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and professional‐level experience
Good knowledge and demonstrated application of DOE and regulatory requirements related to safety in a research environment.
Broad knowledge of Laboratory organizations, operations, activities, and data collection tools. Good knowledge and application of Integrated Safety Management, Integrated Work Management, and other safety procedures

This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
