Los Alamos National Laboratory Industrial Hygiene & Safety Professional 2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Occupational Safety and Health – Industrial Safety and Hygiene (OSH‐ISH) Safety Services Team Leader, the Health and Safety (H&S) Professional 2 will be responsible for assisting ISH to implement Industrial Safety programs, policies and procedures. The IHS Professional 2 will also provide daily IHS support to programmatic and facility organizations to ensure the protection of workers and compliance with Laboratory IHS requirements. The IHS Professional 2 will use professional IHS concepts to resolve complex analysis of work activities and data. The IHS Professional 2 promotes safety, security and quality in all operations; exercises prudent fiscal and property management; promotes teamwork with the organization and across the Laboratory; promotes a positive work environment; and delivers exceptional customer service.

IHS Professional 2 works under limited direction and receives general instructions on new assignments.

Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions, determines approach to solutions, and plans schedule and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of and experience with industrial hygiene and safety hazards and the application of controls.

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to industrial hygiene and safety, including 29 CFR 1910 and 1926.

  • Skills to communicate major elements of industrial hygiene/safety to technical and non‐technical personnel.

  • Working knowledge of and experience with industrial hygiene/safety risk assessments and corrective actions.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively within a team environment and provide excellent customer service.

Education/Experience: A bachelor’s degree in related technical discipline and a minimum of five years of related experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and professional‐level experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • GSP/CSP preferred

  • Working knowledge, and demonstrated application, of DOE requirements related to industrial hygiene and safety.

  • Broad knowledge of LANL organizations, operations, and activities.

  • Experience providing ESH oversight of subcontractor activities.

  • Experience identifying, applying, and interpreting federal codes, standards, and regulations.

  • An advanced degree and/or relevant professional certification.

Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation):

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
