Los Alamos National Laboratory Infrasound Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
We are looking for postdoctoral candidates with infrasound, physical acoustics, and/or geophysics backgrounds. The infrasound research conducted by the LANL Geophysics Group includes investigations supporting global explosion monitoring, analysis of supersonic sources, and similar applications for global and national security. Research topics for this exciting position may include:
Develop, use, and evaluate infrasonic signal analysis methods including array processing, signal detection, event identification and localization, and source characterization
Develop, use, and evaluate numerical acoustic propagation modeling tools for local, regional, and global scale analyses
Quantify propagation-related uncertainty due to the dynamic and poorly sampled nature of the atmosphere and investigate methods to reduce this uncertainty in various signal analysis applications
Investigate seismoacoustic source physics for model development (e.g. theoretical and numerical models for blast waves, generation of sound by underground explosions, and aero-acoustic sources)
