What You Will Do

This position will be part of the NIE-TS group’s first line management team, providing planning, acquisition, implementation, and maintenance of the group's Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telecommunications service center. The VoIP service support team handles support services for approximately 15,000 telecommunication devices including legacy analog phones. It also configures and supports service for call centers on campus. This position will oversee a team of telecommunications professionals who coordinate closely with other teams to provide a full range of communication services for Laboratory customers. This leadership position is responsible for managing the following services:

  • The VoIP service center that handles new service installations, trouble calls, and termination of service for approximately 15,000 end devices on campus.

  • Call center management services for approximately 40 call centers on campus.

  • Database management of telephone circuits and end user devices.

  • Reporting metrics on telecommunication service trends.

  • Maintenance of telephone services through telecom applications such as Broadsoft and Zervina.

  • Development and maintenance of new communication services for customers

  • Providing guidance and interpretation of policies and programs concerning assigned accounting functions.

  • Defining and recommending organizational objectives, developing specific short-term and long-range plans, and monitoring progress to assure work objectives are attained and schedules are met.

  • Identifying current and future needs of internal customers, and developing short-range plans.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience in telecommunication systems, methodologies, tools and processes.

  • Knowledge of telephone installation, dispatch, and workload control.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of general business practices.

  • Ability to collaborate with customers and define requirements.

  • Ability to organize projects and teams and manage end-to-end work processes.

  • Ability to apply general accounting principles and monitor expenditures in support of programs and policies.

  • Thorough working knowledge of LANL process improvement and leadership initiatives.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills including selecting, retaining and developing team leads and obtaining high-quality work from staff.

  • Ability to translate technical terms to layperson's terms and present them to audiences outside of NIE and the Laboratory.

  • Skill in working closely with customers and suppliers to define expectations and mutual responsibilities.

  • Expertise in MS Office Applications

  • Demonstrated experience with the use of SharePoint 2010

Desired Skills

  • Experience with federal facility rules and regulations on communication operations

  • Expertise in the use of COMIT (Communication Management Information Tool)

  • Demonstrated experience with the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

  • Experience working with telecommunication or utility drawings and symbols

  • Demonstrated experience managing small teams and projects to meet established deadlines and objectives

Education: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum three years of related management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
