Los Alamos National Laboratory Net Software Developer (Software Developer 3/4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do_

A division within the Business Innovation Directorate, the Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division provides software and applications development support and database design/ development and administration, software quality management, and enterprise application consulting. The selected candidate will report to the SAE-2 Team Leader and perform job requirements as described below and as assigned by the SAE-2 Management.

This position will be filled at either a Software Developer 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Software Developer 3 Responsibilities ($87,800 - $144,800)

The selected candidates will work as a .Net Application Developer in the Software Applications and Engineering group (SAE-2) supporting the development and maintenance of Security, HRMS, Training, Procurement, Financial, Payroll, Inventory and Environment, Safety, Health applications, and infrastructure components. They will be responsible to:

  • Deliver progress reports to project leaders, sponsors, and help define project plans and milestones.

  • Develop SQL and TSQL to support custom built and COTS applications.

  • Provide software enhancements and support using the .Net development tool suite.

  • Contribute to the designing, developing, modifying, testing, debugging, and evaluating of software to meet customer requirements.

  • Collaborate with customers and colleagues.

  • Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined by Software Configuration Management Plan.

Software Developer 4 Responsibilities ($96,600 - $161,300)

In addition to the Software Developer 3 responsibilities outlined above, the Software Developer 4 will be required to:

  • Lead the designing, developing, modifying, testing, debugging, and evaluating of software to meet customer requirements.

  • Lead the upgrading, supporting, extending, and enhancing Commercial off the Shelf Products (COTS) and or custom built applications.

  • Assess the impact of software upgrades and other environment changes.

  • Set the direction of goals for project tasks and establish associated scope, schedule, and budgets.

  • Work independently and/or serve as Technical Lead on Projects and coordinate technical activities of project personnel.

  • Provide knowledge transfer to Technical staff.

  • Perform on-call responsibilities for Production Applications.

Software Developer 3 Job Requirements

  • Experience designing, developing, modifying, testing, and debugging software to meet customer requirements.

  • Experience using SQL Server 2010 or higher versions.

  • Experience writing SQL Queries and Stored Procedures in SQL Server.

  • Experience providing software enhancements and support using C# applications in a Web environment.

  • Ability to partner with customers.

  • Experience with software configuration management; software quality assurance methodologies.

  • Experience with Visual Studio.

  • Ability to assess the impact of software upgrades and other environment changes.

  • Knowledge of secure coding practices.

  • Experience with relational data modeling.

  • Experience in complex, large scale, true web application development.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience using Team Foundation Server.

  • Experience developing and enhancing Mobile applications.

  • Experience using and/or developing Web Services.

  • Experience upgrading, supporting, extending, and enhancing Commercial off the Shelf Products (COTS) such as NOW Solutions emPath.

  • Experience with HTML and Model View Controller design pattern.

  • Experience using web application frameworks such as AngularJS.

Software Developer 4 Job Requirements

  • In addition to the requirements outlined for the Software Developer 3 above, the Software Developer 4 requirements include:

  • Extensive experience analyzing and defining business requirements and preparing technical designs.

  • Ability to work independently and/or serve as Technical Lead on Projects and coordinate technical activities of project personnel.

  • Extensive experience using SQL Server 2010 or higher.

  • Expert experience with HTML and Model View Controller design pattern.

  • Experience with TDD and testing frameworks.

  • Expert experience using web application frameworks such as AngularJS.

  • Ability to enhance technical and professional expertise of other staff through active mentoring and training.

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills for communicating technical information and building relationships with customers and colleagues.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience customizing Team Foundation Server for application lifecycle management, especially in DevOps.

  • Experience developing and enhancing Mobile applications.

  • Experience using and/or developing Web Services.

  • Ability to provide on-call support.

Education:

Software Developer 3: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, postgraduate course work may be desirable.

Software Developer 4: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum twelve years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, postgraduate course work may be expected.
