Los Alamos National Laboratory Nuclear Criticality Safety Graduate Internship in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do_
  • Assist in computational NCS studies

  • Learn the basics of the NCS discipline

  • Students will be mentored by analysts, and the internship provides calculation and work experience that will enhance their undergraduate curriculum.

  • Introduced to various physical and mechanical design documents such as drawings and schematics.

  • Investigates problems affecting nuclear criticality safety.

  • Assists in the preparation and presentation of nuclear criticality safety technical reports and evaluations.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Must have documentation of acceptance into a Graduate program or enrolled in a Graduate program with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Enroll in and successfully complete a minimum of 6 semester credit hours (or equivalent of full time enrollment) of course work in a Nuclear or Chemical Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience writing technical papers or proposals.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated good communication skills

  • Completed coursework or research experience in one of the disciplines outlined above.

Additional Details:

Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
