What You Will Do
You the Shift Operations Manager at Los Alamos National Laboratory is responsible for managing and maintaining safe, secure, and compliant work environments at facilities enabling efficient and effective mission execution. You will be responsible for providing day-to-day oversite of operations and management of moderate hazard facilities. Position will work a day or afternoon shift.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Safety: Thorough knowledge/understanding of the requirements for Integrated Safety Management, Formality of Operations, and Safety Basis.
Facility policies and Procedures: Thorough understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, lock-out/tag-out and facility policies and procedures.
Leadership: Leadership ability to oversee a wide range of management functions, including directing the plan of the day/group budget/investigation, reporting processes regarding abnormal events, and small project management, etc.
Communication: Must have excellent written/oral communication skills to include the preparation of reports/presentations.
Work Ethic: Demonstrate experience managing day-to-day activities of organizations deployed to the facility (Maintenance, Engineering, Safety Basis, Operations, Radiation Protection, etc.).
Nuclear Facility Management: Relevant Nuclear Facility management experience with expert knowledge of typical Safety Class or Safety Significant systems or equivalent.
Emergency Response: Ability to serve as a member of the Facility Command during emergency response.
Operations Center: Ability to qualify as a TA55 Operations Center Supervisor and operator.
Conduct of Operations: Thorough knowledge and understanding of LANL conduct of maintenance, conduct of engineering, conduct of operations, conduct of training, and quality assurance programs or equivalent.
Qualification: DOE Order 426.2 requires BS degreein engineering or related science, 3 years of job related experience, and 2 years of nuclear experience.
Education/Experience :Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Knowledge of eSOMs electronic logging and rounds implementation process
Background in DOE, Commercial, Navy or Navy Shipyard Nuclear Operations.
In-depth knowledge of the Laboratory’s organizational structure and objectives.

Position may require serving in an on-call capacity at times when the facilities are unmanned.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
