Job Information

Los Alamos National Laboratory Post Bachelor Student in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Nuclear and Particle Physics and Applications Group (P-3) is seeking a Post-Baccalaureate to join a team of mechanical engineers providing engineering support for the design, development, fabrication, and operation of experimental apparatus for fundamental and applied experimental physics research. The P-3 group is a group of scientists, engineers, technologists, students and post-docs who design, construct and operate multiple nuclear and particle physics experiments at LANSCE and accelerators around the world. The engineering work involved with these experiments spans a wide variety of engineering activities – from relatively simple mechanical structures to complex apparatus that may involve one or more of the following: cryogenic operations, tight mechanical tolerances, low mass structure design, medium and high-pressure systems, electric and magnetic field environments, vacuum systems. The engineer that fills this position will join a team of senior and junior engineers that support these projects, and will have the opportunity to contribute to one or more projects supporting both fundamental and applied science at the laboratory. Engineers in the group typically participate in all phases of projects, from the conceptual to final designs of items, to manufacturing, implementation into the experimental apparatus and verification of operation in the experiments.
