Los Alamos National Laboratory Procurement Engineer (Engineer 1/2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do_

This position will be filled at either the Engineer 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the Engineer 2 level.

Procurement Engineer 1 ($69,500-$113,300):

The successful candidate will perform the following duties in this position:

  • Serve as the project technical representative on equipment design/build contracts and/or purchase requisitions

  • Provide design contract oversight and operational technical support

  • Review bid summaries, major drawings, and staffing estimates and schedules

  • Work within facility system design and safety envelope requirements

  • Implement commercial grade dedication and environmental/seismic equipment qualification

  • Develop and compile procurement packages

  • Review proposed system/ facility designs for maintainability, operability, and conformance to facility operational and safety requirements and integration with equipment designs

  • Perform work in accordance with the Conduct of Engineering (CoE) Program

  • Work with a team of engineers responsible primarily for LANL facility and site design/analysis work and review of LANL construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Laboratory codes and standards

  • Participate in design, analysis, and other review activities for non-reactor nuclear systems. These systems include process and piping systems, cooling and heating water systems, pumps, non-reactor nuclear laboratory specialty gas distribution systems, and glovebox enclosure systems

  • Assist the Project teams with application of engineering and technical standards and practices

  • Qualify equipment for use in nuclear facilities

  • Other duties as defined by the Team Lead

Procurement Engineer 2 ($76,800-$125,600):

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Procurement Engineer 2 duties are as follows:

  • Provide leadership for engineering staff on procurement engineering, commercial grade dedication, and equipment qualification implementation

  • Provide advice and consultation to Project Management, Facility Engineering, and Engineering Services management in the area of Procurement Engineering

  • Lead and integrate team activities related to procurement engineering to support the overall project requirements including technical quality, cost, and schedule

  • Implement Conduct of Maintenance and Conduct of Engineering procedures and best practices

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Minimum Requirements for Procurement Engineer 1:

  • Experience providing technical support to the equipment procurement process

  • Knowledge of industry standards and codes

  • Proficiency with personal computers

  • Demonstrated experience in preparation of technical documents that support procurement actions

  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)

Minimum Requirements for Procurement Engineer 2:

In addition to the job requirements outlined above, the Procurement Engineer 2 requirements are as follows:

  • Experience in the implementation of ASME NQA-1 requirements with emphasis on design, procurement, control of items, material traceability, records, shipping/handling, test and inspection control, and special processes

  • Awareness/understanding of commercial grade item dedication and environmental equipment qualification processes to ensure that structures, systems, and components meet both technical and quality requirements

  • Experience using industry standards and codes applicable to facility engineering and design

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in non-nuclear facility system, components, and structures design

  • Demonstrated expert experience developing technical documents including installation instructions, verifications, acceptance, and testing documents

  • Knowledge/understanding of engineering maintenance techniques and construction methodologies

  • Knowledge of engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of technology aided engineering tools to conventional and non-conventional facility and operations-based engineering problems

  • Proven ability to integrate and coordinate multi-facility, cross-functional technical work activities

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of LANL Engineering Standards and LANL Conduct of Engineering principles and procedures

  • Professional Engineering License

  • Experience with glovebox designs

Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Architecture. Other science degrees may be acceptable with sufficient procurement engineering experience
