What You Will Do

This position will be filed at either the Production Control Specialist 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Procurement team under the Nuclear Process Infrastructure (NPI-8) Group is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Designated Procurement Representative.The selected candidate will effectively and compliantly procure programmatic and facility related equipment and materials in support of programmatic and facility operations at TA-55 and RLUOB. This is a vital part of ensuring programmatic and facility milestones and deliverables are met.

Responsibilities include the following:

Production Control Specialist 2 (($61,500-$97,700)

Job Duties include:

  • Procure equipment and materials for multiple programs at TA-55.

  • Assist requesters with developing procurement packages, ensuring packages are complete and compliant in accordance with LANL policies and procedures as well as applicable quality standards.

  • Prepares and submits submittal packages to Office Engineers (OEs) & Procurement Engineers (PrETs).

  • Works with PrETs, & OEs, ensuring timely turnaround of all issues.

  • Tracks materials from request received, through RFQ, order awarded, and up to delivery.

  • Works with the warehouse team and OEs and PrETs to resolve any material issues.

  • Utilize a variety of automated systems to manage and track procurements.

  • Screen requestor input for completeness and compliance with institutional, technical, and quality requirements.

  • Identify and select appropriate methods for procurement, and expedite orders.

  • Maintain a professional atmosphere, be detail oriented, provide excellent customer service and exercise excellent communication skills.

  • Maintain records in several applications for all purchase requests.

  • Effectively communicate with the customers.

  • Assist with ensuring items are ordered and expedited in accordance with both LANL and Program requirements.

Production Control Specialist -3 ($73,800-$120,400)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Production Control Specialist -3 will be required to:

  • Possess the ability to successfully procure material for a larger volume of projects than the

  • PCS-2s

  • Proven ability to multi task and purchase a high volume of ML-1 through ML-4 construction and/or maintenance related material

  • Track , manage and update project cost code list for ALL projects

  • Provide mentorship and training to less seasoned DPRs

  • Attend integrated project meetings and status material

  • Initiate and lead process improvement efforts

  • Assist procurement engineers research parts and resolve material issues

  • Assist procurement engineers with developing procurement packages

Minimum Job Requirements:

Production Control Specialist 2

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform procurement related functions in a fast paced, highly regulated environment.

  • Proven ability to exercise independent judgment to determine how to best serve customer and organizational needs.

  • Proven ability to provide excellent customer service and work cohesively in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and suppliers.

  • Ability to comply with Laboratory practices, policies, and procedures specifically relating to procurement and quality.

  • Proficient in Project Management software including MS Office, MS Excel, MS Word, Access, etc.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy of information.

  • Excellent organization skills and possess an ability to manage multiple conflicting high priority purchase orders simultaneously in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Production Control Specialist 3

In addition to the job requirements outlined above, qualification at the Production Control Specialist 3 level requires:

  • Proven above average skills in Project Management software including MS Office, MS Excel, MS Word, Access, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop resolution to complex problems, based on procurement policies and standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to manufacturing policies, programs, procedures and practices.

Desired Skills:

  • Record of effective written and oral communicationskills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions.

  • Proven record of using independent judgment and initiative to prepare and review procurement related document (i.e., specifications, quotations and quality documents.)

  • Experience purchasing material in a nuclear facility and/or high-regulated environment.

  • Experience preparing and reviewing technical information.

  • Experience purchasing a consistent high volume of material for multiple customers.

  • Knowledge of NQA-1 and NAP24 quality drivers.

Education Required Production Control Specialist 2: Position typically requires aBachelor’s or higher degree in an engineering, scientific, or business management discipline, from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education Required Production Control Specialist 3: Position typically requires aBachelor’s or higher degree in an engineering, scientific, or business management discipline, from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The selected candidate will report to the Nuclear Process Infrastructure, Materials Management & Business Solutions (NPI-8) Procurement First Line Manager. The (NPI) Division provides the necessary business process and support functions to ensure Los Alamos National Laboratory, through the Associate Lab Director for Weapons Production (ALDWP), successfully executes its mission assignments involving nuclear and explosive materials, science, technology, and weapons components. NPI partners with the ALDWP Engineering, Operations, and Program Management Divisions and with the ADNHHO Facility Operations Directors at TA-55 and TA-22 to achieve mission success.

The NPI-8 Materials Management and Business Solutions Group provides an array of procurement and warehousing support services critical to ALDWP operations at TA-55, RLW, RANT, TWF, WCRR, CMR and RLUOB. The group has dedicated staff that strive to deliver Best in Class procurement and warehousing support to enable plutonium science and manufacturing in support of the national defense.

NPI-8 provides business solution services in the areas of web-based application development and management, development of information management systems and business process automation in support of work performed for ALDWP.
