What You Will Do
This position will provide vital production and manufacturing support for critical areas of operations. The responsibilities of this position cover a broad range of transactional activities that are crucial for manufacturing accountability, security, shipping, tracking, quality, and successful delivery of product to a broad customer base. The PF-WFS group at LANL provides manufacturing services for both unclassified and classified components that support the weapons testing programs for LANL and the NWC. PF-WFS manages a diverse machining and inspection capability that supports multiple programs with fabrications ranging in size from miniature to very large on a wide variety of materials including radioactive, toxic, pyrophoric, and/or other hazardous characteristics.
The successful candidate will serve as the group point of contact in operational areas that demand attention to detail, strong communication skills, self-initiative, and the ability to conduct internal inventories and assessments on policy execution. This employee will work closely with management, PF-WFS personnel and a large customer base to monitor and ensure compliance in the areas of control and accountability of classified material as the lead Classified Matter Parts Custodian (CMPC) for the group. CMPC duties will include daily support for machinists and technicians with component transfers and tracking, as well as conducting inventories of classified and hazardous materials through the use of tools such as the Classified Parts Inventory Management System (CPIMS). In addition to these duties, the successful candidate will also serve as the primary LANMAS custodian for the group and will oversee safe and compliant storage, disposition, packaging and/or transportation of hazardous and/or classified material and components. These duties will require certifications as an MBA custodian and HMPT shipper. Additionally duties of this position will involve supporting the PF-WFS Classified Component Destruction/Sanitization process, which requires component acceptance and tracking of classified items that are sent to PF-WFS from other LANL organizations for destruction via machining operations. The successful candidate will also prepare for and serve as the point of contact for LANL and DOE external audits.
As a Production Specialist for PF-WFS this candidate will also work closely with the production control engineer to support data collection and report generation from JobBoss, which is the group’s production scheduling software. This “voucher” report process is performed on a defined schedule and provides critical cost data on all scheduled jobs being worked at any given time in the shops.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated experience working with radiological material, hazardous material, and/or classified matter management, accountability (MC&A;), coordination, packaging, transportation (HMPT) regulations, storage and disposition.
Advanced knowledge of nuclear material management to include SNM processing, storage, control, disposition, distribution, and limits for radiological facilities.
Expert knowledge and training in the control and accountability of classified material as a classified matter parts custodian and demonstrated experience with the use of the LANL CPIMS system.
Demonstrated experience working safely and securely as a laboratory employee in a moderate hazard work environment and maintaining required safety and security training.
Demonstrated extensive analytical skills and proven competence in anticipating, identifying, researching and resolving complex issues .Work experience showing a contribution to work place development, disposition, coordination, packaging, movement, storage, quality control and/or transportation subject areas; self-starter that can identify problem areas, investigate and recommend solutions as well as support implementation strategies.
Proven interpersonal skills including negotiating, influencing, oral presentations and written communication with the, ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers.
Extensive experience organizing complex, multi-tasked projects through prioritization and teaming with others. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and conflicting priorities.
Demonstrated proficiency with computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
Must be able to acquire and maintain pertinent certification to include but not limited to: NMCA Certification and HMPT Certification
Demonstrated experience working in environments with a high level of operational formality.
Weapons experience within the NNSA Weapons Complex.
Strong working knowledge of the breadth of PF-WFS activities associated with classified weapons component fabrication.
Experience dealing and working with audits and assessments on/or related to P821-2, Management of Classified Parts.
Demonstrated initiative towards monitoring and ensuring policy compliance through teaming efforts with floor personnel and management staff to mutually improve operations.
Education:Position typically requires a recognized bachelor’s or higher degree in an engineering, scientific, or business management discipline, from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
