What You Will Do

The Weapons Stockpile Modernization Division (Q-DO) is seeking a Program Manager to support weapons programs and will support the Project-Program Director for Office of Special Projects. The Program Manager will manage and ensure the timely completion of discrete technical and operational projects directly related to the special project mission at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The successful incumbent will provide leadership and overall management of an assigned technical or operational portfolio within the NNSA and DoD.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Brokers with divisions/groups/programs to determine what work will be done to meet the customers’ needs, general timeframes, and funding requirements within a broad range of Laboratory needs

  • Develops strong working relationships that span existing internal and/or external institutional missions and extend into new opportunities as policies, missions, and opportunities evolve.

  • Monitors performance and manages, under change control, the project scope, schedule, budget, and technical baselines.

  • Executes and manages administrative project requirements of this Program/Project team

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Strong project management background with demonstrated success in both performing and leading complex projects or a portfolio of projects.

  • Ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor project efforts from initiation to completion.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of project control principles, including cost and performance reporting, variance analysis and use of cost and schedule tools.

  • Demonstrated good judgment in identifying potential project risks, developing risk mitigation strategies, and recommending and implementing risk acceptance/avoidance for aspects of the assigned portfolio.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing effective customer relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.

  • Experience using sound and independent judgment in negotiating with program and line managers to ensure that resources are available to accomplish the work, and to marshal resources to complete project deliverables.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Experience in LANL financial processes and principles.

Desired Skills:

  • Active SCI clearance

  • Familiarity with the weapon systems program and deliverables

  • Familiarity in weapon component fabrication and device assembly operations

  • Advanced degree in engineering or related discipline or MBA

  • Experience working closely with DOE/NNSA/DoD

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification

  • Active Q clearance

Education Required: Position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s of Science degree and at least five years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree and a Project Management Institute certification is desired for this function and level, but not a requirement.

Weapon Stockpile Modernization Division (Q Division) provides systems engineering and program management to develop and field qualified engineering solutions to improve the safety, reliability and security of our Nation's nuclear stockpile throughout the weapon life cycle. Q Division is responsible for leadership of activities in LANL weapons program life extension and alternation projects, as well as in projects to increase technological options for customers’ future stockpile requests or needs.
