What You Will Do
The successful candidateforthis job will use the principles and theories of mechanicalengineering designtosolvetechnicalproblemsinsupportofproduction agency productengineering for plutonium product manufacturing atLANL.Thisjobwillsupportengineering/projectsin thedevelopmentofdesigns and drawings for design definition which support pit manufacturing, surveillance, sub critical experiments and other plutonium manufacturing projects in the Pu Sustainment and Directed Stockpile Work programs at LANL.
These will be complex and demanding assignments requiring initiativeandindependentjudgment.Thesuccessfulcandidatewillbeexpected to work independently; work as part of a team; and contribute to product definition improvements to meet customer requirements. Specific job duties include but are not limitedto:
Build production agency design definition drawings, specifications, flow sheets, and bill of materials for plutonium manufacturing efforts.
Prepare, review and document technical information, assistwithtechnicalresearchandgatherdataneededbyengineersin plutonium fabrication and cold developmentareas.
Contributetothefulfillmentoftheplutoniumsustainmentandweapons surveillance projects and organizationalobjectives.
Will perform development and conceptual designs/ 3D models for products integrating them with tooling and holding fixtures for manufacturing processes.
Work with Product Engineers to develop and update the consolidated Bill of Materials for all programs within our portfolio.
Will work with product engineers to prepare and/or carry out changes in design, methods of manufacture and assembly and packaging of components.
Perform reverse engineering of parts and components to improve fit, form, and function and use 3D printer in development activities.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Expertise: Minimum of five years of experience with modeling and related designing.
Knowledge and Skills: Ability to generate product designs based off of engineering discussions and iterative development. Create detailed engineering drawings to support production with in-process component design, tools and fixtures
Complexity and Scope:
Create detailed Bills of Materials for the designed products
Contribute to down-selection of process materials used in the manufacturing of the plutonium products
Product configuration management
Interaction and Collaboration:
Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise. Requires responsibility for making responsible contacts across internal organizations and occasionally external to the organization.
Have effective communication skills.
Education and Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
Thorough knowledge of engineering drawing practices such as ASME Y14
Proficient in PTC Creo Parametric 3D modeling
Proficient in using PTC Windchill for product configuration management
Some experience with 3D modeling using SolidWorks
Experience in PDM link to access customer drawings and models.
