Los Alamos National Laboratory Quality Assurance Specialist 2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This seasoned, experienced professional is based in the Institutional Quality (QPA-IQ) group and reports to the QPA-IQ Supply Chain Quality lead. The selected candidate will be a part of QPA-IQ’s team who are responsible for receipt inspection, procurement quality, supplier evaluations, and the Institutional Evaluated Suppliers List (IESL). The successful candidate, working under limited guidance, will need to have the skill to develop, implement, and evaluate processes, procedures and applications contributing to the overall objectives of maintaining an effective quality assurance program. Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in managing Suspect/Counterfeit Items (S/CI) Inquiries and Investigations

  • Developing quarterly S/CI reports for presentation to the Los Alamos Field Office (DOE)

  • Maintaining Event Logs and assisting in evaluating trends

  • Assisting in chairing the Los Alamos National Laboratory S/CI Working Group

  • Development and dissemination of Quality Alerts and S/CI related notifications

  • Assisting in the tracking and approving of S/CI Nonconformance Reports

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of 10 CFR 830 Subpart A, DOE Order 414.1D, national consensus standard ASME NQA-1—2008/ASME NQA-1a-2009 Addenda, NAP-24, and/or U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide Series or equivalent.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience with quality concepts and principles and how these are applied.

  • Ability to foster a work environment that promotes openness, trust, communication, teamwork, innovation, and satisfaction.

  • Experience in preparing and presenting reports.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and demonstrated experience interacting and effectively communicating with all levels of customers and management.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience with S/CI related activities

  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas and associated tools: assessments; lessons learned; risk characterization; and issues and corrective actions management.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience leading and supporting quality assessments, surveillances, and/or audits.

  • Experience in the preparation of quality assurance (QA) procedures for review, approval, and issues in accordance with approved Laboratory procedures.

  • Experience with various types of databases.

  • A high level of personal motivation/standards and the ability to work within changing situations to meet deadlines.

Education:Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, minimum of 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The Institutional Quality (IQ) group supports the Laboratory by helping organizations ensure quality work is executed consistently and effectively across the institution. IQ includes internal assessments, supplier evaluations, NQA-1 audits, receipt inspection, suspect/counterfeit items, procurement quality, HLR inspections, quality support, quality program, document control/records and software quality functions. The IQ mission is to integrate quality requirements into engineering processes, validate that Policies and Programs meet regulatory and customer requirements, and to develop and manage electronic systems to support the QPA division institutional programs.
