Los Alamos National Laboratory Radiochemistry/Actinide Separation Chemistry Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Isotope Production and Applications Program in the Chemistry Division regularly produces and purifies radionuclides for a wide application spectrum in industry and research. We are seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral position in radiochemistry or actinide separation chemistry to perform laboratory research involving the production of accelerator- formed radioisotopes and short-lived actinide isotopes. The successful candidate will be joining a team of chemists and physicists to conduct research and development on the preparation, properties and applications of new radionuclide products.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Sound academic training in nuclear, radiochemistry or analytical chemistry.
In-depth hands-on experience with radioactive material in a laboratory setting. Willingness to work with high dose rate materials.
Demonstrated ability to carry out independent and collaborative research, as evidenced by at least one first-author paper submitted to or published in a peer-reviewed journal.
Strong technical and interpersonal communication and language skills both orally and in writing.
Creative and proactive approach to scientific problem solving.
Proven ability to meet research deliverables and deadlines.
Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary research team.
Experience in hot cell operations and telemanipulator handling.
Experience in one or more additional discipline(s): nuclear physics, general inorganic and/or synthetic inorganic or organic chemistry.
Experience in nuclear reaction or quantum mechanical modelling.
Experience with data analysis using software tools such as IDL or Matlab.
Proven contributions to successful research proposals
Education: PhD in chemistry or related field completed within the past five years or soon to be completed. Must be completed before hiring.
