What You Will Do
This position will be filled at the R&D; Engineer 1, R&D; Engineer 2 or R&D; Engineer 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. The position will support engineering development of new systems such as multi-pulse inductive adders, resonant converters, capacitor marx banks, klystron power modulators, and bump magnet modulator systems. On a daily basis, the candidate will support continued operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the existing LANSCE power systems. The successful candidate will be required to provide “on-call” support after hours approximately one week out of four.

Minimum Job Requirements:
R&D; Engineer 1 ($80,100 - $131,000) The successful candidate will:
Demonstrated undergraduate training in electrical engineering fields that support competency in the design of high current power supplies, high voltage engineering, or pulsed power engineering.
Demonstrated experience in effectively producing written documents and successful oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to read and understand schematics
Additional Job Requirements for R&D; Engineer 2 ($87,800- $144,800) In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the R&D; Engineer 2 level requires:
Demonstrated record of contributions to the design, development, testing, and installation of pulsed power or high current magnet power supply systems (preferably both)
Demonstrated experience in developing concepts for pulsed power or magnet power supply systems.
Demonstrated technical abilities in the design and development of magnet power supply or pulsed power systems.
Demonstrated experience working as part of a team to develop pulsed power or magnet power supply systems.
BSEE and 4 years of experience or MSEE and 1 year of experience (Master’s Thesis and/or relevant internships would be considered)
Demonstrated recent and successful hands on troubleshooting, installation, and testing experience for either pulsed power or high current magnet power supply systems
Additional Job Requirements for R&D; Engineer 3 ($96,600- $161,300)In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the R&D; Engineer 3 level requires:
Demonstrated record of leading the design, development, testing, and installation of pulsed power or high current magnet power supply systems (preferably both)
Demonstrated technical leadership in developing advanced concepts for pulsed power or magnet power supply systems.
Demonstrated record of developing innovative pulsed power and power supply concepts.
Demonstrated record of conducting engineering design in accordance with defined procedures for conduct on engineering.
Demonstrated skills in applying the system engineering process to defining requirements and translating those requirements into designs that meet customer expectations.
BSEE and 8 years of experience or an MSEE and 4 years of experience.
Operations experience at an accelerator facility
Experience with programmable logic controllers
Experience with RF design
Experience with high power RF systems
R&D; Engineer 1, 2 & 3 Education Required:Typical educational requirement is a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree from an ABET accredited engineering college or university program. Preference may be given to Electrical Engineering Degrees.

Where You Will Work
Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
AOT-RFE supports the RF power systems, the pulsed power systems, the magnet power supply systems, and the cavity field control systems for the LANSCE linear accelerator. The LANSCE accelerator is an 800 MeV proton accelerator whose mission is to support stockpile certification, isotope production for medical treatments, and basic science. AOT-RFE is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and upgrade of the LANSCE accelerator as well as new accelerator initiatives. This engineering position is a member of the magnet power supply and pulsed power team. In this role, working with a team of technicians and other engineers, the successful candidate will be responsible for the operations, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades of the LANSCE pulsed power systems, the LANSCE magnet power supply systems, and the LANSCE injector high voltage and pulsed power systems. The specific areas of work include the development of pulse power systems, solid state and vacuum / gaseous tube modulator systems, power supplies, digital and analog circuit designs, high voltage systems, high current systems, high energy systems, and related diagnostic systems.
