Los Alamos National Laboratory Research Technologist 1 (High Energy Density Technologist) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do_

The successful candidate will take a significant role in executing experiments at off-site High Energy Density Physics facilities, such as OMEGA in Rochester, NY. The technologist will work with lead experimenters to prepare for experiments, will be responsible for equipment logistics, for interacting with facility personnel, and collection of data. This work will require initiative, creativity, and independence to accomplish the needed scope. At Los Alamos, the technologist will be responsible for oversight of an x-ray calibration laboratory and developing new instrumentation for HEDP experiments. The new employee will work with experienced technologists and scientists to develop new required skills. All work will be performed in a formal safety and security environment. Extensive travel, greater than 15 weeks per year, is expected.

  • Experience working in a formal safety environment that may include radiological hazards

  • Experience with mechanical design

  • Experience with CAD software

  • Active Q clearance.

Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and a minimum of two years of relevant experience.

Plasma Physics (P-24) is Los Alamos National Laboratory’s center for experimental plasma physics and High Energy Density Physics (HEDP) that supports research topics of national importance in inertial confinement fusion, magneto-inertial fusion, hydrodynamics, and radiation hydrodynamics. We apply extensive knowledge of plasma, atomic, laser-matter interaction physics, laser and pulsed-power technology and complex diagnostics to study matter under extreme conditions, and field and interpret results from experiments at LANL and other experimental facilities. We collaborate closely with scientists in the modeling, theory, experimental, and engineering capabilities at LANL and worldwide.
