Los Alamos National Laboratory Superintendent 2/3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Construction Superintendent will report to the Construction Manager 4 in the Construction Management organization, which resides in the Capital Projects directorate. This position provides expertise to supervise and direct formal construction projects, modifications to existing facilities, and construction support. The Construction Superintendents must be able to direct and oversee personnel, equipment and material resources resulting in work executed to the planned cost and schedule baseline.
These positions will be filled at the Superintendent 2 and Superintendent 3 levels. Selections will be dependent on the skills of the selected candidates. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Superintendent 2 ($80,100 to $131,000)
Directs the sequence of work for multi-discipline, bargaining unit, craft workers, operating within assigned areas. Ensure facility modifications continuously adhere to engineering designs, engineering document control, specifications, quality standards, schedules, and budgets. Work closely with System Engineers, Construction Managers, Superintendent Leads, and Project Managers.Will work independently, but may be under the oversight of a Superintendent 3. Project size is typically <$500k.
Superintendent 3 ($96,600 to $161,300)
This position is responsible for, and lead, projects >$500k. Superintendent 3 will provide oversight to Superintendent 2s as necessary. May initiate the investigation of abnormal events, incidents, and/or accidents to identify the root cause and assist in implementing appropriate corrective actions. May serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) responsible for planning, budgeting, managing and controlling costs and schedule performance for a project or subproject and serve as a point of contact for project controls, including account scope, schedule, budget and technical performance. Ensure work packages realistically represent the duration and budget necessary to perform work and perform variance analysis reviews, determine cause and effect of schedule or cost variance and define achievable corrective action plans. May be expected to present project management performance plans, status updates, trends, or issues to federal sponsors.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with construction management including a broad range of the following: systems engineering design and constructability, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control, procurement procedures, facility control systems and earned value management systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of all phases and complexity levels of construction projects, upgrades and renovations including participating in constructability reviews of the design process, familiarity with the ML determination process and the potential impacts to construction cost and schedule.
Knowledge of lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of an Earned Value Management System as demonstrated through previous work assignments.
Demonstrated ability to work in a unionized labor environment with excellent communication and teaming skills.
Experience managing resources in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with experience preparing and presenting reports.
Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum five years of experience in maintenance and/or construction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Job Requirements for a Superintendent 3:

Advanced knowledge of an Earned Value Management System as demonstrated through previous work assignments.
Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum seven years of experience in maintenance and/or construction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Applicant should display working knowledge of LANL Zero-Accident Safety programs, or respective industry program.
Applicant should display a working knowledge and/or experience performing construction mods in and operating Nuclear Facility and/or High Hazard Facility.
Work Environment:Work near sources of ionizing radiation. Work near sources of non-ionizing radiation.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
