Los Alamos National Laboratory Theoretical Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking qualified applicants for multiple postdoctoral openings, to push the boundaries of science and strengthen national scientific and technical capabilities in a highly engaging scientific environment. We provide unique opportunities for cross disciplinary collaborations, scientific workshop organization, and conference attendance ( https://www.lanl.gov/careers/career-options/postdoctoral-research ) . Postdocs have always been essential for the Theoretical Division, with many transitioning to careers as long-term scientists at LANL. Outstanding applicants may be nominated for prestigious LANL-funded fellowships , enabling the pursuit of independent research. Postdocs in the Theoretical Division usually win over 30% of these prestigious fellowships awarded across the entire Laboratory . Applicants working in the physical and biological sciences, mathematics, computer science and engineering are encouraged to apply.
The Theoretical Division ( https://theoretical.lanl.gov ) performs research in all scientific disciplines of LANL’s mission. The Theoretical Division is currently pioneering research in quantum computing, materials design, data science, exascale computing, intelligent and quantum materials, nuclear physics, clean energy sources, Earth system modeling across scales, the constituents of matter and their interactions from (sub)nuclear to cosmic scales, health security, and more. Currently, the Division counts over 200 staff members supported by over 120 postdoctoral researches and over 120 graduate summer students, organized into 6 groups and one center, the Center for Non Linear Studies (CNLS). Scientific endeavors within the Theoretical Division consistently contribute creative and novel solutions to fundamental science and problems of national importance, including energy and environmental sustainability and security, stockpile stewardship, global threat reduction, and epidemiology. Furthermore, CNLS also hosts postdocs in a shared environment, promotes unique connections with other important lab entities, runs an intense series of seminars and colloquia and hosts renowned visiting scientists.
