What You Will Do

NEN-6 is seeking a Professional Staff Assistant as a team member who reports to the NEN-6 Group Leader, supporting high hazard and high security work activities associated with the Threat Reduction mission at NNSS. The NEN-6 team located at NNSS works under constantly changing priorities, quick turn-around and deadlines and makes decisions that have a high impact on the performance and perception of the Laboratory.

Specific duties of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Being an effective, supportive, trustworthy, and customer-focused member of the team requires close cooperation and communication, adaptability, taking initiative in completing tasks, and willingness to provide support wherever needed.

  • Frequent interactions with other Labs, the Nevada Field Office, and the NNSS M&O; contractor to coordinate and plan operations.

  • Active participation in frequent teleconference calls with staff at the home Laboratory and NNSA.

  • Assume responsibilities with minimal supervision and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Responsible for designing and implementing administrative policies and procedures as NEN-6 operations at NNSS expand.

  • Act as a resource regarding LANL, LLNL, and NNSS policies and procedures.

  • Perform classic administrative duties (e.g. purchase requests, Time and Labor, domestic travel, calendar management, records management, vehicle maintenance records, facility service requests, visitor processing, etc.)

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Proven competence in providing high-level administrative support in a busy office environment, including interfacing with all levels of personnel.

  • Knowledge and experience in project management.

  • Experience working effectively with program and technical staff in defining and accomplishing program milestones (scope, schedule, cost, and budget).

  • Knowledge and experience monitoring status of project costs, budgets and schedules.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills (interpersonal, verbal, and written) while interacting effectively with all levels of employees and managers.

  • Demonstrated experience with solving problems, developing solutions, and innovating business practices to ensure customer and sponsor satisfaction.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining excellent quality in daily operational work, as well as the fine-tuned skills of organizing, prioritizing, and following through to completion multiple projects with frequent interruptions under strict deadlines and changing priorities.

  • Demonstrated experience working constructively and effectively in a multi-disciplinary group environment.

  • Experience building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.

  • Demonstrate initiative, versatility, and accuracy in the performance of their work product.

  • Demonstrated commitment to quality and excellence as evidenced by exemplary work products.

  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance, which normally requires US citizenship. (Selected candidate will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.)

Desired Skills:

  • Designated Procurement Representative (DPR) experience.

  • Knowledge of LANL-specific business systems, including Oracle, UTrain, Sunflower, iProcurement; knowledge of LANL records management processes.

  • An active Q clearance.

  • An active HRP Certification.

Education:Position typically requires 2 or more years of relevant experience.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

Where You Will Work

Permanently located in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Advanced Nuclear Experiments Group, NEN-6, provides the capability to conduct hands-on and remotely operated experiments with significant quantities of nuclear material to a variety of national security programs. This capability, which became operational in 2010, supports both critical and subcritical experiments and training. NEN-6 provides the operational backbone for the NCERC. The NCERC is operated within a hazard category 2 nuclear facility located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).
