Reporting to the Trace Analytical Chemistry (TAC) team leader in the Nuclear and Radiochemistry (C-NR) group management, the successful applicant will serve as an interface and integrator with LANL facility operations within the RC-45 clean laboratory facility. C-TAC team provides expertise and capabilities in low-level radiochemistry, radioanalytical chemistry, international safeguards, global security, nuclear non-proliferation, and invitro bioassay monitoring with contributions to a range of R&D and operational programs in support of the weapons program.
Essential job duties, but are not limited to:
- Report to the dynamic Trace Analytical Chemistry (TAC) team
- Manage operations at a world-class 10,000 sq. ft class 100-10,000 clean lab facility
- Oversee chemistry and mass spectrometry laboratories
- Ensure optimal facility performance and coordinate all maintenance activities
- Identify requirements for programmatic system maintenance (UPS, generator, water treatment, etc.)
- Coordindate external vendor support where appropriate
- Manage facility construction and upgrades across multiple buildings
- Work closely with TAC leadership to set priorities and schedules
- Coordinate with facility tenants to minimize programmatic disruptions
- Provide mechanical, chemical, and electrical support to operational programs
- Follow all applicant Integrated Work Management (IWM), safety, and security practices
- Occasional extended work hours may be required
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements for Research Technician 3 ($64,700 - $101,400)
- Familiarity and experience with facility systems
- Experience interfacing with management and maintenance organizations/contractors/craft workers
- Ability to coordinate facility maintenance efforts with building tenants
- Experience performing general facility or technical equipment maintenance or repairs as required
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires US citizenship
- Ability to work independently with initiative
- Ability to provide day-to-day technical support while maintaining progress on long term tasks
- Ability to assist in managing the initiation, planning, execution, and completion of all programmatic facility projects with minimal consultative direction.
Education/Experience at Research Technician 3 level: Position requires an Associate's Degree and 3 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at Research Technician 4 level: Position requires an Associate's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working in or maintaining a clean room environment
- Experience in facility HVAC
- Experience reviewing, contributiong to, or working from complex facility engineering designs
Work Environment: The work location for this position is fully onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
Note to Applicants: While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grown into the full salary band over time.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
