Graduate-Student Research Assistant Position in Theoretical Quantum Materials

What You Will Do

The Physics of Condensed Matter and Complex Systems Group (T4) is seeking graduate students to join our dynamic teams for the summer! We are seeking team-oriented and highly-motivated students currently enrolled in a graduate program (masters of PhD). The selected students will partner with an experienced mentor who will provide guidance and feedback throughout the course of the summer internship. The student will study theoretical topological quantum materials.


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Position requires enrollment in a Master's or Doctoral Degree in Condensed Matter Physics (or a closely related field), with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent.
  • Must be able to independently learn how to use scientific software packages and how to perform analytical calculations
  • Good communication skills, brainstorming and writing skills are essential, as is working effectively as part of a team.
  • Desire to Learn: The desire to continually learn new things, as well as being open to working on a variety of topics.

Training/Certifications: None

Education/Experience: The candidate must have an undergraduate degree and be actively seeking a PhD degree at a university.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Strong background in quantum field theory and condensed matter physics theory
  • Scientific programming skills

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
