The Maintenance and Site Services Central Execution group (MSS-CE) is a customer-based group whose mission is to provide the Laboratory with qualified workers and subject matter experts who can support, maintain, repair, and replace specialty equipment and work on specialty programs in a safe, efficient manner.
The Project Leader (PL) will oversee and ensure the successful execution of projects within the Maintenance and Site Services Central Execution Group. This role is responsible for managing Replacement in Kind Fire Protection Maintenance Projects-such as antiquated fire alarm systems and sprinkler riser replacements-by establishing technical requirements, defining project deliverables, budgets, and schedules, and leading teams through all project phases from initiation to completion. The PL serves as the primary liaison, coordinating with facility operations managers, maintenance managers, Fire Marshal representatives, building managers, planners, and craft personnel to deliver safe, compliant, and efficient project outcomes. Additionally, the PL develops detailed work packages, manages project scope, and ensures alignment with programmatic objectives and customer requirements, while reporting statuses back to CE Maintenance Mangers and other funding stakeholders.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Project & Maintenance Leadership: Demonstrated working knowledge and experience in leading maintenance and/or technical project activities, ensuring safe, timely, and compliant execution.
Project Management Expertise: Proven ability to develop and manage project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages; maintain scope, schedule, budget, and technical baselines; and prepare and document baseline and progress reports.
Technical Proficiency: Working knowledge of the technical discipline relevant to the assigned project, with the ability to interpret technical data and apply engineering or maintenance principles effectively.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement: Experience developing and maintaining effective internal customer relationships; demonstrated ability to coordinate across diverse functional areas including operations, maintenance, and safety.
Team Leadership & Collaboration: Strong ability to plan, organize, lead, and monitor multidisciplinary teams to successful completion of project goals.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to build trust, gain consensus, present information clearly, and resolve conflicts effectively.
Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 2 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of P-950 and AP-Work documents related to planning and execution of maintenance activities.
- Familiarity with NFPA 13, NFPA 72, and other applicable Fire Protection and International Existing Building Code (IEBC) standards.
- Proficiency in common software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and Teams.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance project management and technical decision-making.
- Strong initiative and commitment to professional growth, with a desire to actively pursue technical training and continuous learning opportunities.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Work Schedule: This job is flexible to the approved LANL work schedules. Some after-hour work or weekend support may be needed to complete projects.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular Position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
