Splunk Administrator (Cybersecurity Technical Staff 2)

What You Will Do

The selected candidate will work on the Splunk application and security information and event management (SIEM) to provide system and infrastructure support for security teams within the NIE Engineering and Security Services (NIE-ESS) group. The group is responsible for computer security incident response, penetration testing, vulnerability scanning and mitigation, security tool development and support, and LANL's network security architecture.

Responsibilities include:
  • Install, support, and maintain Splunk application and infrastructure.
  • Support Splunk users with application related queries
  • Contribute to the design, development, modification, and debugging of a robust SIEM infrastructure.
  • Develop an advanced understanding of the Splunk product.
  • Work as a team member and independently with direction from management.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems.
  • Knowledge of cyber security best practices.
  • Experience with modern UNIX /Linux configuration management and use of tools similar to SALTStack.
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with operating system security, and server monitoring tools
  • Experience documenting requirements, system builds, network configurations, and other detailed technical documentation.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers and to understand their needs.

Education/Experience: This position requires a bachelor's degree in a technical field and a minimum of 4 years' related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Splunk certification or completed Splunk training.
  • Hands on experience with Splunk, including Splunk Indexers, Splunk Search Heads and Forwarders.
  • Experience in Cyber Security.

Location: This position will be located In Los Alamos, NM with the potential for a hybrid work arrangement (partially onsite/partially offsite) from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite will be periodically required. Hybrid is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
