What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Technical Project Manager 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Technical Project Manager 3 ($115,500 - $194,900)

The Technical Project Manager 3 will manage and ensure the timely completion of discrete technical or operational projects. You will establish technical requirements for the project, define project deliverables, budgets, and schedules and oversee the project team in the planning, tracking, and execution of the project from initiation to completion. The Technical Project Manager 3 will be expected to interact with and represents LANL on Radioactive Fissile Materials Packaging and Transportation (HMPT) issues with other HMPT experts in the DOE complex, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), LASO-SM-SO, Department of Transportation (DOT), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Travel and off-site work are required to meet position requirements and will vary depending on mission/project needs. Typical travel locations are other NNSA sites (e.g., LLNL, SNL, and NNSS).

Technical Project Manager 4 ($138,700 - $240,500)

In addition to what is outlined above, The Technical Project Manager 4 will be responsible for developing, executing, and overseeing project plans related to nuclear materials management. Primary responsibilities include coordinating, integrating, and executing nuclear materials data collection, inventory analysis, reporting, forecasting and data distribution to assist managers in optimizing processing, shipping, storage and disposition of nuclear material for both classified and unclassified work. The selected candidate will also lead projects related to nuclear material shipping to include tracking nuclear material disposition records, creating queries, reports, feed lists and performing analysis to support nuclear material disposition for domestic and foreign work.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Skills: Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience in project management of technical or operational work, including developing project plans, managing to scope, and schedule. Demonstrated knowledge of the technical or operational discipline of the assigned project.

Leadership: Demonstrated ability to successfully plan, organize, lead and monitor a variety of team efforts to completion for both internal and external customers.

Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and line management building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.

Communication: Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Additional Job Requirements for Technical Project Manager 4:

Technical Experience: Expert-level knowledge of LANL Nuclear materials management including special nuclear materials processing, special nuclear material processing, storage, control, disposition and distribution; nuclear material inventory data analysis, including planning, trending, reporting and controlling; with database queries and initiation of forms and reports; classified computing and classified document handling requirements.

Communication: Proven ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Active Q clearance and ability to participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP)
  • Experience with LANMAS, LAMCAS, QERTS and WCATS
  • Experience in SAP programs
  • Knowledge of and/or experience performing programmatic operations at TA-55, ALDWP, and ALDW
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Access, SharePoint and/or MS SQL server
  • Program Management coursework
  • Experience with PVD and TOS


Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q L or Q or Q/SCI(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
